Aurasma tutorial for Sherlock Holmes and the Internet of Things

  1. 1. Make your own AR “magnifying glass” with Aurasma
  2. 2. What is Aurasma? Aurasma is a free app that allows you to see and create augmented reality content. It brings tagged images, objects and even physical locaCons to life with interacCve digital content, whether video, animaCon, or 3D. The app works with iOS and Android telephones and tablets alike. To create your own, you will need to download the app and create an account in Aurasma Studio. 2
  3. 3. Some vocabulary you’ll need to know •  Trigger: this is the staCc image that will literally “trigger” the augmented reality. This image will be the base for what you are building and will also be what you share with others. •  Overlay: This is the photo or video that will start when people look at your trigger image through the Aurasma app. •  AcCon: This is how the overlay behaves when people look at your trigger image through the app. You can choose whether you want your overlay to fade in, to go full screen, etc... •  Aura: This is the combinaCon of your trigger image and the overlay together 3
  4. 4. Steps to building your own auras 1.  Create an account in Aurasma Studio: hOps://studio.aurasma.com/home 2.  You can name your “channel” anything you want. In this case, I named ours “SherlockIoT”, as we are using it to create a virtual magnifying glass during the “Sherlock Holmes and the Internet of Things” connected crime scene on October 24, 2015 3.  Create your first aura by clicking on the “+ Create New Aura” link to the upper right of your screen. 4
  5. 5. And now it begins! 4.  Upload your Cgger image, save and click on “Next” 5.  Upload your overlay 6. Adjust your overlay so it covers your trigger image 7. Click on “Add acCons” 5
  6. 6. Add your acCons 8. You have choices at each step. For the sake of this example, I have chosen to trigger an acCon when the overlay is tapped. (click on the downward arrow to the right for more choices) 9. Choose your next acCon. 10. Click on “+ Add Overlay”, click on the right hand arrow, and choose your overlay. 11. When you’re done, the save buOon will turn purple. Click on it. 6
  7. 7. Add your Ctle and hashtags 12. Aber you have saved your acCons, click on Next again, which will take you to this page. Add your Ctle (Aura Name) and hashtags for people to find your auras. 13. Last but not least, be sure to click on save. When you’re ready to make your auras public, you must also click on share. 7
  8. 8. How can people find you? Aber parCcipants have downloaded the app, give them the following simple instrucCons: PS. Don’t forget to replace SherlockIoT with your own channel name! 8
  9. 9. For the Paris Meet-up ParCcipants will be using Aurasma as a virtual magnifying glass. The trigger images will be the crime scene evidence tents that parCcipants will be placing themselves. When examined through the “magnifying glass”, the evidence tents will reveal the object clues that the parCcipants will use to create their collaboraCve narraCve. 9 Photo courtesy of the London Meetup
  10. 10. If you have followed SherlockIoT Take a look at some of our triggers through the Aurasma app: 10 An image will appear. Tap it once to have it go full screen Tap twice to exit full screen
  11. 11. If you have followed SherlockIoT 11 Take a look at some of our triggers through the Aurasma app: An image will appear. Tap it once to have it go full screen Tap twice to exit full screen
  12. 12. If you have followed SherlockIoT 12 Take a look at some of our triggers through the Aurasma app: You can add video
  13. 13. If you have followed SherlockIoT 13 Take a look at some of our triggers through the Aurasma app: Or you can add a link
