In 2015, the United States poultry industry experienced an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), affecting 15 states and costing the industry an estimated $1.6 billion. As part of the response, Veterinary Services supplied maps and epidemiological analytics to people in the field, trade partners, and other officials. The level of support needed would have been impossible without automating many processes. In this session, you will hear how Alteryx helped support the outbreak response by automating many time-consuming data management and analytical tasks. We will highlight the tools and techniques used that helped simplify what would have been an almost impossible task to deliver and accommodate response areas: weekly mapping, epidemiological analyses, and ad-hoc data management and analytical requests.

We often hear about human disease outbreaks, such as the current Zika virus. But have you ever thought about would happen if there was a devastating outbreak that affected our food supply?
What would have to be done to stop the disease spread? How would it affect buying our groceries? What would be the economic impact? Such an outbreak happened in 2015, and Alteryx was there to streamline the data processing.
Delivering these products required many different methods. But the thing they all had in common was the need to join multiple data sets from lots of different sources and file formats. And they often needed several steps to produce.
We needed to automate repeated processes, which required writing, testing, and maintaining lines and lines of Python and SQL code. Spatial data needed analyses in ArcGIS. Data needed to be summarized to the county or state level. Data needed to be converted to ArcGIS format. And data needed to be statistically analyzed and put into table formats.
Because of having to move data between software systems and data formats, updating products was a pain. Because of the time crunch, documentation was difficult to keep up.
Alteryx has really streamlined our data processing. It provides the ability to ask a question and the gratification of an answer faster than ever.
