Perform assigned control and automation activities, including assessments in relation to acceptable engineering standards. Ensure maximum equipment availability through the minimization of breakdowns within the manufacturing area by carrying out scheduled preventive maintenance activities. Assist with the identification and procurement of critical spares for all equipment within the manufacturing facility. Identify continuous improvement opportunities to extend the lifespan of machine parts, increase production output and improve the mean time between failures. Achievements: Overhauled the calibration and verification plan of all process measuring equipment on the site by creating new and reviewing old SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), coming up with service level agreement (SLA) with external service providers on equipment that could not be calibrated internally. This resulted in a clean audit during the Global quality Audit in August 2014 Implementing the control and automation disaster recovery plan for the whole site which involved creating PLC backups, PLC upgrades in cases where the equipment had become obsolete or no longer supported by the manufacturer and critical spares procurement. These resulted in reduced automation and control downtime, were previously a PLC breakdown would take at least 2 days or more to resolve now it only take hours. Spearheaded the training of site Electrician on AC drives and basic knowledge of PLCs. Now they are able to do simple fault finding which is further minimizing the automation and control downtime.
