General DEscription
FORMAT Six sections, this part have 40 questions each part contains conversations, and
monologues.
TIMING Approximately 30 minutes (plus 10 minutes transfer time)
N° OF PARTS 6
N° OF QUESTIONS 40
TASK TYPES Multiple choice, Matching, Diagram labelling,Chart table completion,
Sentence completion and Short answer- questions.
TEXT TYPES Monologues, situation in every social contexts like travel arrangements,
educational, experiences and training contexts.
ANSWER FORMAT Candidates can write their answer on the question paper, they have to
write the answer with capital letters. Finally, they have 10 minutes to
transfer the answer on the answer sheet.
RECORDING INFORMATION The recordings are heard once only, include a variety of accents like
British, Australian and American.
MARKS All questions receives 1 mark.
STRUCTUR

TASK TYPE
Multiple Choice
FOCUS This task type is used to know a wide range of skills, the candidates
have a detailed understanding of specific points or an overall
understanding of the main points of the listening text.
FORMAT Each question have three options, the candidates have to choose the
correct answers A, B or C , they have approximately 30 seconds to
choose and write the option or answer.
N° OF QUESTIONS

TEST STRATEGIES Highlight keywords words in question. identify answers that seem
unlikely & then find proof before eliminating them.
TASK TYPE Matching
FOCUS This task type assesses the skill of listening for detail. It may also be
used to assess the candidate's’ ability to recognise relationships and
connections between facts in the listening text.
FORMAT In this task type, test takers are required to match a numbered list of
items from the listening text to a set of options on the question paper.
The set of options may be criteria of some kind.

TEST STRATEGIES Identify the most obvious answers but then find proof before selecting
them.
TASK TYPE
Plan, map, diagram labelling
FOCUS This task type assesses the ability to understand, for example, a
description of a place, and to relate this to a visual representation.
FORMAT The answers are usually selected from a list on the question paper.
The visual may be: a diagram (e.g. a piece of equipment), a set of
pictures, a plan (e.g. of a building), a map (e.g. of part of a town).

FOCUS
The main ideas/facts in the text
FORMAT Test takers are required to fill in gaps in an outline of part or of all of

FOCUS This task type focuses on the ability to identify the key information in
a listening text. the candidates have to understand functional
relationships such as cause and effect.
FORMAT In this task type, the candidate's required to read a question to which
they have to write a short answer using information from the listening
text, NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS AND/OR A NUMBER.

more than the numbers of words allotted. look at given information to
identify the type of information required. scan given notes in
summaries to frame your own note -taking
TASK TYPE
Short-Answer Questions
FOCUS It focuses on the ability to listen for concrete facts given in the
listening text.
FORMAT The takers must read a question to which they have to write a short
answer using information from the listening text ‘NO MORE THAN
THREE WORDS AND/OR A NUMBER’. Test takers are penalised for
writing more than the stated number of words.

Read instruction before start of each section and highlight keywords. Do not panic if you miss a answer.
Listen out for linking words and discourse markers to help you follow
what is happening.
Do not guess any answer unless you cannot find the
answer or evidence for an answer and your time is
almost up.
Check your spelling and grammar. Does the words you have chosen fit
grammatical, and should it be singular or plural?
Do not listen for enjoyment - your purpose is the
answer the question only.
Look for synonyms of keywords in questions.
Guess - if you cannot find the answer.
Do not worry if you can not understand or hear every
word. remember that the rhythm of spoken english
means that most important words are always stressed
the most.
Transfers answers quickly but carefully. Do not leave any space on your answer sheet
you do not lose marks for wrong answer.

  • 2. General DEscription FORMAT Six sections, this part have 40 questions each part contains conversations, and monologues. TIMING Approximately 30 minutes (plus 10 minutes transfer time) N° OF PARTS 6 N° OF QUESTIONS 40 TASK TYPES Multiple choice, Matching, Diagram labelling,Chart table completion, Sentence completion and Short answer- questions. TEXT TYPES Monologues, situation in every social contexts like travel arrangements, educational, experiences and training contexts. ANSWER FORMAT Candidates can write their answer on the question paper, they have to write the answer with capital letters. Finally, they have 10 minutes to transfer the answer on the answer sheet. RECORDING INFORMATION The recordings are heard once only, include a variety of accents like British, Australian and American. MARKS All questions receives 1 mark.

TASK TYPE Multiple Choice FOCUS This task type is used to know a wide range of skills, the candidates have a detailed understanding of specific points or an overall understanding of the main points of the listening text. FORMAT Each question have three options, the candidates have to choose the correct answers A, B or C , they have approximately 30 seconds to choose and write the option or answer. N° OF QUESTIONS Variable TEST STRATEGIES Highlight keywords words in question. identify answers that seem unlikely & then find proof before eliminating them.
  • 5. TASK TYPE Matching FOCUS This task type assesses the skill of listening for detail. It may also be used to assess the candidate's’ ability to recognise relationships and connections between facts in the listening text. FORMAT In this task type, test takers are required to match a numbered list of items from the listening text to a set of options on the question paper. The set of options may be criteria of some kind. N° OF QUESTIONS Variable TEST STRATEGIES Identify the most obvious answers but then find proof before selecting them.
  • 6. TASK TYPE Plan, map, diagram labelling FOCUS This task type assesses the ability to understand, for example, a description of a place, and to relate this to a visual representation. FORMAT The answers are usually selected from a list on the question paper. The visual may be: a diagram (e.g. a piece of equipment), a set of pictures, a plan (e.g. of a building), a map (e.g. of part of a town). N° OF QUESTIONS Variable TEST STRATEGIES Brainstorm any vocabulary or knowledge that you have of the picture or topic.

TASK TYPE Form, note, table, flow-chart, summary completion FOCUS The main ideas/facts in the text FORMAT Test takers are required to fill in gaps in an outline of part or of all of the listening text. N° OF QUESTIONS variable TEST STRATEGIES Use a highlighter to separate different characteristics of categories. use given information to determine relationships if necessary.

TASK TYPE Sentence completion FOCUS This task type focuses on the ability to identify the key information in a listening text. the candidates have to understand functional relationships such as cause and effect. FORMAT In this task type, the candidate's required to read a question to which they have to write a short answer using information from the listening text, NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS AND/OR A NUMBER. N° OF QUESTIONS Variable TEST STRATEGIES Contractions are not used when words-limits are given. do not use more than the numbers of words allotted. look at given information to identify the type of information required. scan given notes in summaries to frame your own note -taking
  • 9. TASK TYPE Short-Answer Questions FOCUS It focuses on the ability to listen for concrete facts given in the listening text. FORMAT The takers must read a question to which they have to write a short answer using information from the listening text ‘NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS AND/OR A NUMBER’. Test takers are penalised for writing more than the stated number of words. N° OF QUESTIONS Variable TEST STRATEGIES Highlight keyword. listen specific words but also ideas - paraphrase
  • 10. strategies IELTSDo Don’t Read instruction before start of each section and highlight keywords. Do not panic if you miss a answer. Listen out for linking words and discourse markers to help you follow what is happening. Do not guess any answer unless you cannot find the answer or evidence for an answer and your time is almost up. Check your spelling and grammar. Does the words you have chosen fit grammatical, and should it be singular or plural? Do not listen for enjoyment - your purpose is the answer the question only. Look for synonyms of keywords in questions. Guess - if you cannot find the answer. Do not worry if you can not understand or hear every word. remember that the rhythm of spoken english means that most important words are always stressed the most. Transfers answers quickly but carefully. Do not leave any space on your answer sheet you do not lose marks for wrong answer.
