  4. 4.  Easter in Slovakia  religious importance.  people commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  lent  boys beat girls with willow canes and throw cold water over them  girls give the boys painted eggs, cakes and alcohol  traditional Easter food in Slovakia: ham and potato salad.  On Good Friday and Easter Monday people do not go to work or school. Easter in Britain and America  chocolate eggs, hot cross-buns  Good Friday, Easter Sunday  children hunt for painted eggs all over the house and garden.  Eggs are symbols of spring and new life

  6. 6.  American customs:  Thanskgiving Day - celebrated on the last Thursday in November.  Independence Day on July 4th - The Declaration of Independence was signed.
  7. 7.  St. Patrick’s Day  Irish holiday  people dress in green April Fool’s Day  Itis on 1st April. People play jokes and tricks on people and shout „April Fool“.

  9. 9.  Cosmopolitan countries and cities:  AUSTRALIA: people from many different countries and continents, who brought their traditions to their new homeland.  LONDON: British from different parts of the country searching for jobs have settled down next door to Pakistanis or West Indians. Their children attend the same schools.  NEW YORK: Nationalities stay in their own areas.The area of a city where many Chinese people live is called Chinatown.
