Easter is the most important christiantradition. With the sacrifice of Christ we canliterally talk about the birth of the Christianfaith. The traditions we have here in Romania, associated with this event, have a history ofhundreds of years. Among them we count thepainting and decorating of Easter eggs.
In the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches,Easter eggs are dyed red to represent the blood ofChrist, shed on the Cross, and the hard shell of the eggsymbolized the sealed Tomb of Christ — the cracking ofwhich symbolized his resurrection from the dead. Eastereggs are blessed by the priest at the end of the PaschalVigil (which is equivalent to Holy Saturday), anddistributed to the faithful. The egg is seen by followersof Christianity as a symbol of resurrection: while beingdormant it contains a new life sealed within it.
1. The eggs must be washed in water with salt and they must be boiled 10 minutes inwater with salt, too. They have to be cooled on a towel and then you can dye them.2.
