  1. 1. FEEDBACK Feedback from Alex Narrative Interpretation: A guy who once lost the girl he loved (possibly death, but this explains this reaching for her and then there being a tree there) and eventually he’s able to come to terms with the fact that they’re still together on his heart. Genre Interpretation: Without music, the genre could have been Electronic or Indie, as it’s a bit of an abstract video. Is the artist clear?: The artist is made clear at the start of the video, but without the title it might not be.
  2. 2. FEEDBACK ANALYSIS Feedback from Alex: Narrative Interpretation: Alex’s feedback tells me that I had a clear and present narrative created in my Music Video. This is good because I was concerned that the narrative was one of the weaker aspects. Genre Interpretation: Electronic Music is a way you could describe the song, and the fact that the video clearly holds conventions of a Indie or Electronic video shows that I used them well. Is the artist clear?: It may have been useful to include a degree of lip syncing with my video to identify the main artist more given the feedback.
  3. 3. FEEDBACK Feedback from Ash Narrative Interpretation: The guy is in with the with girl and keep loosing her, eventually ends up together. Genre Interpretation: Musically I’d say electronic. Is the artist clear?: I think it’s clear that the artist is the male lead, as the start of the video is based around him and the vocals are male.
  4. 4. FEEDBACK ANALYSIS Feedback from Ash: Narrative Interpretation: Ash’s feedback tells me that there may not of been enough use of costume and props within the video to give a deeper meaning to the video. This is frustrating so I’ll make sure to concentrate more on these aspects next time. Genre Interpretation: Again, Electronic music is identified, this is edifying and means that I was along the right lines with the feel of the video. Is the artist clear?: This feedback tells me that my use of Cinematography was effective in showing who is the focus of the video.
  5. 5. FEEDBACK Feedback from Mr Drummond Narrative Interpretation: I feel like it’s something to do with a couple, and the guy misses her all the time he’s spent with her. Now he’s lost her, and its kind of looking back on the time that he spent with her. Towards the end of the video it like he’s finally telling her it’s okay for her to leave him, and reassuring that it’ll be okay. Genre Interpretation: The video could fit a few genre’s, but I’d say electronic or alternative. Is the artist clear?: Yeah, its on a title slide at the start.
  6. 6. FEEDBACK ANALYSIS Feedback from Mr Drummond: Narrative Interpretation: Mr Drummonds interpretation of the video tells me that there may have been enough story and narrative to account for the lack of effective use of Mise en Scene. This is interesting as it shows me that its always useful to have more than one source of feedback when it comes to creative direction. Genre Interpretation: The fact that this piece of feedback tells me that the video could have been from several different genres reminds me of the importance of the visual aspects beyond cinematography. I need to focus on the editing and the pace of the piece to fit more to the genre. Is the artist clear?: In my opinion the title slide at the start of the video was more than adequate so Its good to see that I was correct in my judgement.
  7. 7. FEEDBACK ANALYSIS SUMMARY Narrative Interpretation: To summarise, I’ve learned that its equally important to show the audience the narrative through the use of props and costumes as well as aesthetically pleasing camera work. It seems to be that those who want to read into the work have, and I’d like to not have to force my audience to do that, but rather tell them a story. Genre Interpretation: I studied a lot of genre research before production, in hindsight I should of used this more to solidify my genre. In future I will focus more on this when considering production. Is the artist clear?: Whilst lip syncing would of made the artist clear, I feel like it would of detracted from the disjuncture of the lyrics to the video. In future, perhaps more close up shots of the male lead would identify the artist more, rather than people assuming that he was not present, and the only way to identify him was the opening title.
