Figurative language!

  1. 1. Figurative Language: Words or phrases that are not used with their basic or usual meaning. They are given a more imaginative meaning . Examples of figurative language are…..
  2. 2. Simile: <ul><li>Comparing two things by saying that one thing is like something else. </li></ul><ul><li>Example: The sea is like a hungry dog. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Metaphor: <ul><li>Saying that one thing is something else. </li></ul><ul><li>Example: My Mum is an angel. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Personification: <ul><li>Making a thing sound like a person or an animal. </li></ul><ul><li>Example: The wind whistled a deafening tune. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Figurative Language: is the opposite of LITERAL language. Literal means to describe something exactly as it is – Can you think of an example?
