What a cold week it has been here in Brightlingsea, luckily with only a sprinkling of snow.
Friday Night saw a warm welcome in the Clubhouse though for Rupert White, with almost
40 people eating a superb curry and many more attending the talk, including many of our
own cadets. Rupert gave a truly inspirational and down to earth talk, explaining exactly
what it means to aim for a Gold Medal in the Olympics, how much commitment and hard
work is involved and the biggest hurdle, money! We are hoping it inspired our current
cadets to aim high. Please follow Team WhiteUrwin on Facebook, as this will go a way to
help increase their sponsorship. Rupert was supported by past Olympians, John Osborn,
who sailed to Gold with Rupert’s Grandfather, Reg White, as well as Dad, Rob White and

Ladies that Launch –Thursday 15th
Jane Long is hosting a get together for women interested in the “Ladies that Launch”
Programme on Thursday 15th
February at 10.30 am. Whether you are a novice or an
experienced sailor please come along and find out more. Jane is looking for ideas on what
would make the mornings a great learning experience. Even if you are not planning on
sailing why not come along and join in for lunch? We would love to see more of our lady
members using the club in the week, so please do join us for coffee or a light bite.
We will be serving homemade soup and a sandwich for £4.95.
Steak Night – Friday 16th
Billed as an Après Valentines Supper, for those that were too busy /left it too late to book
somewhere...or just plain forgot! A two course Steak Supper with a bottle of wine. £29.95
for two! Maybe even a small surprise All Members and their guests welcome.

Charity Swim- Saturday 17th
Colchester Hospitals Charity are organising a BIG SEA DIP to take place at Batemans Tower
Beach. Sponsorship forms are available on the COHOC web site and you can even set up
your own sponsorship page there. There is no need to go for a full swim, even a paddle will
do! Free t-shirts for those that enter. Why not pop down and see what it’s all about.
Bateman’s Tower will be open for the event. You can also follow the event on Facebook.
Membership Subscriptions 2018
A big thank you goes to those that have already paid their membership fees for 2018 and
also to those that have made donations to the Reserve Fund. All members need to be fully
paid to date before the AGM on March 3rd, in order to vote.
The CYC has made a bid to participate in a Project to reinvigorate the water front in
Brightlingsea. More details will be provided at the AGM.
Bateman’s Tower – Volunteers Needed
Joss Wiggins is organising a small working party to undertake maintenance work at Bateman
Tower. This will include sanding down and treating the window frames, the re -fitting of
signal display boards after refurbishment and tidying up. It is planned this will take place on
a few days during February and March when the weather is suitable. Volunteers to help
with this work would be much appreciated. If you are available please leave your number
with Emma or call / text message Joss on 07975657020. Joss will then contact you when
work is planned to enquire whether you are available.
Power Boat Captain
Thanks to all those who have agreed to stand for election for the Main Committee this
year. Details of those standing will be sent out with AGM papers. However, we have a
noticeable gap in the Committee with regard to representation of those in the club who
water ski, cruise in Power Boats or fish. As such we are looking for someone to represent
this group and help organise activities. Please contact Emma directly if you are interested in

Robin Cole, Skipper and Felicity Lees, Sail Training Coordinator, with the Pioneer Trust
will be giving a talk at 8:00pm at the Colne Yacht Club. There will be food available

International Women’s Day – Thursday 8
One Hundred years ago, in 1918, the Representation of the People Act gave women aged
over 30 the right to vote in England. This 100-year anniversary gives even more poignancy to
International Women’s Day 2018. Men and Women welcome.
We have representatives coming along from local businesses and associations, including
Handicrafts, Fitness, a Choir whom will entertain us as well as telling us the benefits of a good
singalong. Afternoon Tea and Prosecco.
Flag Officer Reception - Sunday 4th
The Flag Officers of the Colne Yacht Club will be hosting a reception for Commodores of
local clubs together with key dignitaries from the town, in order to promote the club as a
destination for events and cruises
Mother’s Day Carvery – Sunday 11th
A get a free glass of Prosecco with the meal (Dad’s, don’t worry, we will do something
for Father’s Day too!).
Fitting Out Supper – Saturday 24th
Live band, ‘Heaven on Earth’ will be performing from 9:00pm. Details to follow
March to Monday 2nd
Fish Supper, after race Lunch and Sunday Roast all in the planning. More details to follow.
