AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY PROFILE IN
INDIA
 The Indian auto industry is one of the largest in the world. The
industry accounts for 7.1 per cent of the country's Gross Domestic
Product (GDP).
 The Two Wheelers segment with 81 per cent market share is the
leader of the Indian Automobile market
 overall automobile exports grew by 1.91 per cent. PV,
Commercial Vehicles (CV), and Two Wheelers (2W) registered a
growth of 5.24 per cent, 16.97 per cent, and 0.97 per cent
respectively
 The sales of PVs, CVs and 2Ws grew by 9.17 per cent, 3.03 per
cent and 8.29 per cent respectively, during the period April-
January 2017.

HISTORY
Tata Motors
 Tata Motors Limited formerly
TELCO, short for Tata Engineering
and Locomotive Company.
 Founded:- 1945
 Tata entered the commercial vehicle
sector in 1954 after forming a joint
venture with Daimler-Benz of Germany
 Tata Motors entered the passenger
vehicle market in 1991 by launching
the Tata Sierra, a multi utility vehicle.
Tata subsequently launched the Tata
Estate (1992; a station wagon design
based on the earlier 'TataMobile'
(1989), a light commercial vehicle), the
Tata Sumo (1994; LCV) and the Tata
Safari (1998; India's first sports utility
vehicle).
Maruti Suzuki
 In June 1971, a company called Maruti
limited was incorporated under the
Companies Act. Maruti Limited went
into liquidation in 1977.
 Founded:- 1981
 In 1982, a license & Joint Venture
Agreement (JVA) was signed between
Maruti Udyog Ltd. and Suzuki of
Japan.
 in 1983, the Maruti 800 was released.
 In 1984, the Maruti Van was released.
 in 1991, Suzuki increased its stake in
Maruti to 50 percent
HISTORY
TATA Motors
 In 2006, Tata formed a joint venture
with the Brazil-based Marcopolo, Tata
Marcopolo Bus, to manufacture fully
built buses and coaches.
 In 2008, Tata Motors acquired the
English car maker Jaguar Land Rover,
manufacturer of the Jaguar and Land
Rover from Ford Motor Company
 In 2014, Tata Motors introduced first
Truck Racing championship in India
"T1 Prima Truck Racing
Championship".

  • 2. AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY PROFILE IN INDIA  The Indian auto industry is one of the largest in the world. The industry accounts for 7.1 per cent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).  The Two Wheelers segment with 81 per cent market share is the leader of the Indian Automobile market  overall automobile exports grew by 1.91 per cent. PV, Commercial Vehicles (CV), and Two Wheelers (2W) registered a growth of 5.24 per cent, 16.97 per cent, and 0.97 per cent respectively  The sales of PVs, CVs and 2Ws grew by 9.17 per cent, 3.03 per cent and 8.29 per cent respectively, during the period April- January 2017.

AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY PROFILE IN INDIA  Sixth largest producer in the world with an average annual production of 24 million vehicles in 2016.  India has the fifth largest passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle market  Presence of four large auto manufacturing hubs across the country: Delhi-Gurgaon-Faridabad in the north, Mumbai-Pune- Nashik-Aurangabad in the west, Chennai- Bengaluru-Hosur in the south and Jamshedpur-Kolkata in the east.  Contributes to 7.1 % of India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by volume.  Six million-plus hybrid and electric vehicles to be sold annually, by 2020.  Two-wheeler production has grown from 8.5 million units annually to 15.9 million units in the last seven years.

HISTORY Tata Motors  Tata Motors Limited formerly TELCO, short for Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company.  Founded:- 1945  Tata entered the commercial vehicle sector in 1954 after forming a joint venture with Daimler-Benz of Germany  Tata Motors entered the passenger vehicle market in 1991 by launching the Tata Sierra, a multi utility vehicle. Tata subsequently launched the Tata Estate (1992; a station wagon design based on the earlier 'TataMobile' (1989), a light commercial vehicle), the Tata Sumo (1994; LCV) and the Tata Safari (1998; India's first sports utility vehicle). Maruti Suzuki  In June 1971, a company called Maruti limited was incorporated under the Companies Act. Maruti Limited went into liquidation in 1977.  Founded:- 1981  In 1982, a license & Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) was signed between Maruti Udyog Ltd. and Suzuki of Japan.  in 1983, the Maruti 800 was released.  In 1984, the Maruti Van was released.  in 1991, Suzuki increased its stake in Maruti to 50 percent

HISTORY TATA Motors  In 2006, Tata formed a joint venture with the Brazil-based Marcopolo, Tata Marcopolo Bus, to manufacture fully built buses and coaches.  In 2008, Tata Motors acquired the English car maker Jaguar Land Rover, manufacturer of the Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford Motor Company  In 2014, Tata Motors introduced first Truck Racing championship in India "T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship".
