Barcelona, 10 July 2012 – Akamon Entertainment, the leading international online social
gaming company specializing in traditional games, is hoping to win the prize for best startup in
online games in the world at Games Beat 2012, one of the main meeting points for the
videogames industry and investors in the sector.
The inclusion of the social gaming company among the seven finalists at these awards is a
milestone in the history of Akamon, which was founded in July 2011. In the words of Vicenç
Martí, CEO at Akamon: “Being one of the finalists at these international awards for the
gaming industry, and competing against six other leading companies in the sector, reinforces
Akamon’s corporate strategy and its policy for expansion and diversification of channels, while
maintaining the shared liquidity and strength of our global gaming community as one of our
hallmarks.”
The nomination coincides with the first anniversary of Akamon. In its first year, the company,
which started out with the Spanish portal Mundijuegos.com, has launched other local portals
in Brazil, France and Italy and has established itself on Facebook, with one of its games
becoming the most played in its category on the social network. Furthermore, the company
has launched five new games and increased its registered users from 5 to 7 million, as well as
closing collaboration deals with leaders in the online social gaming sector, such as Taringa! in
Argentina.
As Martí explains, “the company’s expansion to become the leader in the Latin-American and
southern European markets has been possible thanks to the recruitment of first-rate,
international talent from leading social gaming and online marketing companies. This has
2. enabled us to develop areas such as user loyalty and innovation, and adapt our product for
new channels, such as Facebook”.
Having been nominated as finalist at the Games Beat 2012 awards, Akamon has been invited
to present its project live at the Games Beat 2012 trade fair in front of a panel of experts and
more than 500 executives, entrepreneurs, investors and media from the gaming industry. The
winner will be announced live at the event.
Vicenç Martí will be representing the company at the awards and trade fair, where he will also
meet with other industry players to finalize the company’s move into the North American
market with the help of strategic alliances.
