  2. 2. Workshop Goals <ul><li>Meet some fellow students </li></ul><ul><li>Learn about academics at Evergreen </li></ul><ul><li>Intro to planning tools and resources </li></ul><ul><li>Get ready to register for fall! </li></ul>
  3. 3. Before you leave today … <ul><li>You’ll have: </li></ul><ul><li>A list of three possible programs for fall, </li></ul><ul><li>With CRN numbers, and, </li></ul><ul><li>Knowledge of how to go on-line and register. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Get acquainted <ul><li>Share some info about yourself: </li></ul><ul><li>Name, home town and state </li></ul><ul><li>One talent or skill you have </li></ul><ul><li>Why you chose to come to Evergreen </li></ul>
  5. 5. College is different from high school <ul><li>Only 15-20 hours/week in class; up to 30+ hours/week of studying outside of class </li></ul><ul><li>Few or no reminders about deadlines, tests, assignments; you must check syllabus </li></ul><ul><li>More and harder reading/writing </li></ul><ul><li>Just reading is not enough—you must also analyze, critique, question the texts </li></ul><ul><li>“ Teaching” ≠ “Telling you the material” </li></ul>
  6. 6. Evergreen is different from other colleges <ul><li>No majors (but you can create area of emphasis) </li></ul><ul><li>No required courses </li></ul><ul><li>One program, rather than several classes </li></ul><ul><li>No grades—instead you get narrative evaluations </li></ul>
  7. 7. Catalog <ul><li>Make sure you’re looking at 2011-12! </li></ul><ul><li>Contents will change throughout summer: check the “ Recently Updated ” link </li></ul><ul><li>Filter/sort: by level (Freshman), by credits, by field of study, by quarter </li></ul><ul><li>Search by keyword </li></ul>

To register . . . <ul><li>Choose and prioritize at least three options </li></ul><ul><li>Note down CRN numbers: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Be sure you’re selecting fall quarter </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Be sure you’re selecting freshman CRN </li></ul></ul><ul><li>As soon as your time comes up, go to my.evergreen.edu </li></ul>
  9. 11. Waitlists <ul><li>Be sure to choose “Waitlist” from dropdown and click “Submit.” </li></ul><ul><li>Multiple waitlists? Use “Waitlist Preference Form” </li></ul><ul><li>Check where you are on waitlist by going to “Student Registration Details” </li></ul><ul><li>There is usually lots of waitlist movement over the summer! </li></ul>
  10. 12. New Student Checklist <ul><li>Pay tuition </li></ul><ul><li>Immunization form </li></ul><ul><li>ID card (after tuition paid) </li></ul><ul><li>Housing and meal plan </li></ul><ul><li>Financial aid </li></ul><ul><li>Parking </li></ul>
