Floriana - The Green City - introduction <ul><li>Floriana is situated next to the capital of Malta, Valletta. </li></ul><ul><li>The origin of the city goes back to year 1634, when Grand Master Antoine de Paule invited Italian engineer Pietro Paolo Floriani of Macerata to design fortifications preventing from future attacks of the enemies. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1721 the fortifications has been completed with the length of more than 4 kms. </li></ul><ul><li>Contemporary Floriana has over 15 public gardens. Amongst other Maltese cities, Floriana can be considered as the greenest city on the island. </li></ul>

In 1805 converted from private gardens of the Knights to botanical gardens </li></ul><ul><li>During the Knights period Argotti Gardens were used for medical purposes. </li></ul><ul><li>Nowadays part of the g arden there is a special botanical section administered by the University of Malta. </li></ul>Entrance to Argotti Garden

After that his name was given to our locality . </li></ul><ul><li>The twinning agreement between the two cities was signed on 1st July 2007 in Floriana. </li></ul>
