  33. 33. 33 ©2016 Acquia Inc. — Confidential and Proprietary33 ©2016 Acquia Inc. — Confidential and Proprietary Case Study What was the problem / challenge that Qualcomm was facing and why? Updating the www.qualcomm.com website for Drupal 7 and making it multilingual. Mirum built the Qualcomm site using a unique architecture called PODS. PODS allow site admins to customize the fields and theme used on a page via a drag-and- drop interface. They are very powerful and provide a lot of flexibility and efficiency, but PODS were not able to be translated using Drupal's core multilingual functionality. This prevented the Qualcomm site from being translated since PODS were used extensively.
  34. 34. 34 ©2016 Acquia Inc. — Confidential and Proprietary34 ©2016 Acquia Inc. — Confidential and Proprietary Case Study What solution was implemented? Drupal 7 with Lingotek Translation Module Drupal integration. Lingotek and Mirum worked together extensively to add support for PODS translation. Lingotek enhanced its module to allow custom entities, such as PODS, to be handled via code-level hooks. Mirum implemented logic to pass PODS content to Lingotek and store the translations properly in the database. The end result was a seamless translation experience for site admins and translators. The PODS content was uploaded for translation along with all the associated content for a given page, translated via the Lingotek TMS, then downloaded back to Drupal.
  35. 35. 35 ©2016 Acquia Inc. — Confidential and Proprietary35 ©2016 Acquia Inc. — Confidential and Proprietary Case Study What results did the project achieve and in what time frame (metrics would be ideal)? The Qualcomm website was re-launched in English with Chinese site going live at nearly the same time. It has since been translated into a total of 9 languages.
  36. 36. 36 ©2016 Acquia Inc. — Confidential and Proprietary36 ©2016 Acquia Inc. — Confidential and Proprietary Case Study What are some lessons learned? Trying to manually manage the localization of a Drupal website is very time consuming, costly, and error prone. Using Lingotek automation released an FTE to work on other projects, reduced cost and improved quality and time to market. Drupal's extensible architecture allows for incredible customization and flexibility. Digital agencies and module maintainers can work together to create powerful, customized experiences for site builders and end users.
  37. 37. 37 ©2016 Acquia Inc. — Confidential and Proprietary37 ©2016 Acquia Inc. — Confidential and Proprietary Case Study What are the next steps for Qualcomm? Ongoing updates to site are facilitated by Lingotek’s Drupal Translation module as well as possibly adding more languages.
