MAIN FINANCIAL STATSWestpac Bankings New Zealand unit doubled its first-quarter profitas the charge it took on bad debts continued to tumble as theimpact of the global financial crisis recedes.New Zealands second-biggest lender by total assets made a netprofit after tax of $95 million in the three months ended December31, more than twice the $42 million profit a year earlier, according toits general disclosure statement.That came from the bank only facing a $57 million charge onimpaired assets during the period, down from $125 million a yearearlier.Net interest income rose 8.4 per cent to $309 million as it squeezedmore from "the roll-over of lower spread fixed mortgages."

Immediately prior to this, she served as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of St.George Bank Limited for five and a half years. During this period, St.George doubled its assets and net profit after tax. Between October 1997 and December 2001, Gail was employed at the Commonwealth Bank as General Manager, Strategic Marketing, and later became Head of Customer Service and a member of the banks Executive Committee.

After the tax had risen, Westpac made a profit of 95 million more than twice the profit they were making earlier.
