  3. 3. He was born on December 19, 1957. He comes from Hibbing, Minnesota.
  4. 4. Time line of career McHale played basketball for the University of Minnesota from 1976 to 1980 1980–1993, he played for Boston Celtics In the summer of 1994, Glen Taylor promoted him to Assistant General Manager In 1995, he was promoted to Vice President of Basketball Operations (i.e., General Manager) On December 8, 2008, McHale take over the head coaching job On June 1, 2011, McHale became the head coach for the Houston Rockets
  5. 5. Why did he choose this job? He came back to Minnesota Timberwolves because he loves his home town. He always knew he was going to come back to Minnesota. He want to do something for his home town. He said:" There is no other place that I would like to spend most of my time. I just know I am at home."
  6. 6. Challenge of the job *EXcellent understanding of how the game works, and that goes beyond knowing the rules. *Know how the business of the NBA is conducted. *Be comfortable working in high-pressure situations. *Being flexible and adaptable to players’ needs.
  7. 7. A Day In The Life of NBA GM *Oversee the business side and basketball side of the team. Meeting with doctors about player injuries. *Having director's meeting. *Going to team's training center, speak with the trainers and a few players. *Making plan to sign or trade players.
  8. 8. How many hours per week and how much travel does the job require? A NBA General Manager have to work about 60 hours per week. Sometime need to travel with the team.

  12. 12. What does an NBA general manager do? General Managers are responsible for overseeing all of the business and financial operations of the team.
  13. 13. Career path Scheer began his career in pro sports as an agent and then worked for the NBA under commissioner Walter Kennedy in the league office.
  14. 14. Advice he gave You need to stay with your past if it's rich enough. Football, baseball and basketball have a rich history. And in order to sustain success you have to recognize your past.
