For some Google Slides is just a dumbed down version of PowerPoint. However, the collaborative nature opens up so many different possibilities. This session will explore intricacies associated with Slides from sharing presentations, to changing themes, to importing media, to creating ebooks. It will be jam packed with practical samples and examples. Aaron hopes to spur on new ideas and start the conversation about why you should start using Google Slides more today.

Google Slides 101

FEATURES - Resize pages - Insert, arrange and animate objects - Edit, crop and adjust objects - Access different Google Fonts - Organise the things using guidelines - Share, collaborate and publish slides - Add notes and comments - Choose from different templates and themes For a thorough step-by-step introduction to Google Slides, I recommend looking at Kasey Bell’s Cheat Sheet.

POWERPOINT ● You can upload PowerPoints into Google Slides MASTER ● You can edit the fonts, layout, background etc in Master EMBEDDING ● Google Slides can be embedded to play automatically TIPS and TRICKS SHIFT (PC & Mac) ● Make finer adjustments ● Constrain to nearest axises ● Maintain proportions CTRL (PC) / OPTION (Mac) ● Choose multiple objects ● Create a duplicate ALT (PC) / ⌘ (Mac) ● Temporarily disables ‘snap to grid’

  6. 6. PRESENTATIONS Using shapes, animations and image manipulation, Slides allows you to create a moving Comic Strip. See this example from Eric Curts to make more sense.
  7. 7. COLLABORATION Slides provides the means to give feedback during the editing stage, as well as critique of ideas and information. Iron Chef lessons allow students to form different groups and take on different roles
  8. 8. Using hyperlinks, you are easily able to make a Choose Your Own Adventure story. INTERACTION Another interactive creation is a game. An example is Eric Curts template for Jeopardy.
  9. 9. Whether it be a newsletter or an eBook, Slides offers the means to easily publish to the world. PUBLISHING
  10. 10. COLLABORATING Read through the different ideas included in Alice Keeler’s crowdsourced document. Add a comment or idea of your own. MAKE AN ANIMATION Look at Alannah King’s explanation of animations with Slides. Have a go at copying one of Dan Huddell’s ‘Athletic Nerds’ to make your own animation.
