BANKING INDUSTRY: WHAT MAKES WOMEN SUCCESSFUL? <ul><li>Nick Wilson, professor of credit Management at Leeds University Business School (LUBS) thinks: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Companies with diversity on their boards, have better productivity. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Having more women on boards of companies helps. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Women moderate risk & are more balanced </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Better gender equality on board- reason for Indian banks scrapping even though economic slowdown unscathed. </li></ul><ul><li>“ If UK banks had more women on their boards, scenario post-recession would have been a lot different”, says Prof Wilson. </li></ul>

TYPHOON FANAPI HITS TAIWAN <ul><li>A large wave hits coast along Nanfangauo harbour in Yilan county, eastern Taiwan, as island braces itself for Typhoon Fanapi on September 19, 2010. </li></ul><ul><li>Taiwan lashed by winds of 200 km/hr as the most powerful typhoon (Fanapi) of the year smashed into island, just a year after a devastating storm left hundreds dead. </li></ul>

HUMANOID ROBOT 'CORE' <ul><li>Japan's Chiba Institute of Technology Future Robot Center unveiled prototype model of large humanoid robot 'Core‘at the college's laboratory in Narashino city, suburban Tokyo on Sep 18, 2010. </li></ul><ul><li>It can carry over 100kg weight on its upper body during a demonstration. </li></ul><ul><li>It is : </li></ul><ul><ul><li>190cm-tall </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>230kg two-leg robot </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Equipped with 12 powerful actuators with shock absorbers </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Developed to carry elderly or disabled people. </li></ul>

PRICE RISE NOT TO IMPACT MARGINS OF FMCG COMPANIES <ul><li>Strategy of FMCG players- more aligned to commodity prices. </li></ul><ul><li>Playing commodity price rise with their A&P spend. </li></ul><ul><li>When up- take conservative stance in marketing expenses </li></ul><ul><li>When leeway in terms of softer commodity prices, hike up A&P spend to boost volumes. </li></ul><ul><li>FMCG more or less in hang of what market says. </li></ul><ul><li>Margins should more or less be managed to that extent. </li></ul><ul><li>On relative or historical basis, FMCG stocks more in line with market & huge scope for PE re-rating. </li></ul>

EIFFEL TOWER REOPENS AFTER BOMB THREAT <ul><li>Eiffel Tower & its immediate surroundings evacuated on Sep 14, 2010 evening after being informed by anonymous caller about bomb threat </li></ul><ul><li>Explosives experts scoured Eiffel Tower & found nothing suspicious. </li></ul><ul><li>Parts of 2 nd tourist hub - Saint-Michel subway station near Notre Dame Cathedral - briefly evacuated following similar threat. </li></ul><ul><li>Station was target of a terrorist attack in 1995 that killed eight & injured scores of people. </li></ul>
