M2M Communication - A communication b/w two or more entities (object/devices/things) based on the existing & evolving communication technologies that do not necessarily need any direct human intervention. M2M Services - Services offered through a connected network of objects/devices, with unique identifiers, in which Machine to Machine (M2M) communication is possible with predefined back end platform(s) either directly or through some gateway. Examples of M2M services include fleet management, supply chain management, agriculture automation, smart utilities including power, water, gas etc. 23
  17. 17. 13-digit numbering scheme for SIM based M2M devices DoT has finalized 13-digit numbering scheme for SIM based M2M devices and allocated 13 digit M2M numbering series to telecom licensees. Structure of 13-digit numbering scheme is: Five codes of 3 digit each (559, 575, 576, 579 and 597) allotted as M2M identifier. The 13 digit M2M numbering plan is implemented from 1st October 2018. From this date onwards, all new M2M mobile connections are being allocated 13 digit numbers only. Migration of existing 10 digit M2M numbers to 13 digits shall be completed by 31st March 2019. WPAN/WLAN Connectivity Provider - an Indian company or an LLP or a partnership firm which uses WPAN/WLAN technologies for providing M2M connectivity for commercial purposes, operating in unlicensed spectrum.
