ViSA (Virtual Safety Area)
1. UWBVIRTUAL SAFETY AREA
Electronic system for creation of virtual areas to help the prevention of accidents
Madrid, November 8, 2016 - THAUMAT company, from CYS Group, has been the winner of the Urban Solutions Program
that invited ICEX (España Exportación e Inversiones) and Ferrovial Services to promote the identification of innovative
Spanish talent and support its internationalization. This program aims to promote Spain's position as a reference in
technology and urban innovation, and serve as a reference for cities that want to improve the efficiency and quality of
their urban services through technology.
The winning solution is a tool that helps to prevent accidents. It is a portable, low-consumption, fully autonomous system
designed to be installed on any approved high visibility work clothing or vest currently available on the market. By signal
light, acoustic and vibration warns the operator to take it that someone has entered its safety area.
UWB (Ultra Wide Band) technology makes this possible, for the first time, in any type of urban service, both open air and
indoor, even in tunnels and underground parking, and also with a very high precision.
As a winning company, Thaumat will have the opportunity to implement its solution in a contract for urban services of
Ferrovial Services in the United Kingdom, and will also be included in the Ferrovial Services Innovative Solutions Catalog,
which includes state-of-the-art urban solutions to Global scale.
The award was presented on November 16 at the Smart City Expo WorldCongress, by ICEX CEO Francisco Javier Garzón
and the director of the Ferrovial Services Cities Competence Center, Iñigo Jodra.
Each device has a maximum range of 200 meters
outdoors, and the distance calculation accuracy is
20cm. The system is highly immune to signal
multipath in a closed environment.
In addition, it allows the configuration of the safety
distances between each pair of devices through a
user interface (Tablet, mobile, etc) for easy setup
and application specific fine-tuning.
Real-time constellation plot based on all-to-all distance measurement.
Worker vest with proximity tag.

The System consists of a prevention tool for workers with potential risk of collision with machinery operating in the same area. It
allows the establishment of a barrier or virtual shield around an individual who has the device (for example in his vest) by detecting
devices carried by other workers or installed in mobile machinery.
The system uses state-of-the-art UWB technology and constantly calculates the distance between each device by releasing external
alarms in the form of luminous, acoustic or vibration signals that instantly alert people at risk.
Each of the devices has an integrated rechargeable battery with a minimum duration of a full working day, and allows its remote
configuration through wireless technology. Each device integrates a motion sensor that allows you to manage different modes of
operation and battery saving.
Another feature of the device is the possibility that the worker activates a manual alarm that triggers a global notification, so that all
the devices in the environment will receive such an alarm.
