Editor's Notes

  1. Easy way to share practical, “how-to” guidance with colleagues. For example, I share the pieces I’ve written on video-making, writing well, and crafting good titles with colleagues. Great way to engage in conversation with colleagues, friends, acquaintances, and new readers about the work you do.
  2. Provides a venue for us to articulate our experiences and knowledge and to share personal stories that have helped shape our work. Excellent platform for showcasing beautiful Photoshare photos and linking to K4Health website and our other products.
  3. Focused on KM as it applies not only to FP and global health but to other fields as well; an opportunity to share “tricks of the trade” and establish ourselves as KM experts beyond the field of FP/global health The tone is more personal/conversational, and the focus is on the writers’ individual voices and experiences—this is an opportunity for staff members and colleagues to share their unique KM expertise, experiential/tacit knowledge, lessons learned, etc.
  4. Medium offers stats on each piece within the collection Views (how many people clicked on the piece) Reads (how many people actually read the piece) Read ratio (percentage of total visitors who actually read the piece) Recommends (how many readers recommend the piece) Referrers (where visitors are coming from) 12 stories; last 3 months We’re still building our publication, so we’re not promoting it widely yet, but, for example, here are the stats for one of our most popular pieces, “What Is Knowledge Management?” 91 views 73 reads 80% read ratio 3 readers recommended the piece 31 viewers came from The Exchange “home page,” 22 came from Facebook, 20 from Twitter, etc. In general, most of our readers arrive at our pieces via Facebook. Pieces are most successful when both K4Health and the individual author promote them on their Facebook pages.
