  1. 1. History <ul><li>Sudoku is an American invention that was first published in 1979. Howard Garns was inspired by the Latin square (statistical analysis) invention of Leonhard Euler. Garns added a third dimension by providing a partially completed grid. </li></ul><ul><li>The math puzzle was introduced into Japan in 1984. Initially it was named Suuji wa dokushin ni kagiru (numbers must be single). Eventually the name was shortened and became Sudoku (Su=number, doku=single). Sudoku is known as the “Rubik’s cube of the 21st century. </li></ul>
  2. 2. How to Play <ul><li>Place a number from 1 to 9 in each box </li></ul><ul><li>Each number must appear only once in the column and row </li></ul><ul><li>Check that each 3 by 3 grid does not have duplicate numbers </li></ul>
