  2. 2. <ul><li>Thomas Jefferson was the president of the United States. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1803 he felt that the city of New Orleans was important to the United States and wanted to purchase it from France. </li></ul><ul><li>He sent two Americans, Robert Livingston and James Monroe, to ask Napoleon Bonaparte, the ruler of France, to sale the city of New Orleans. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Napoleon Bonaparte decided to sale the whole Louisiana Territory to the United States. </li></ul><ul><li>The United Stated purchased the territory in 1803. </li></ul><ul><li>The United States paid $ 15 million dollars for the Louisiana Territory . </li></ul>
