INTRODUCTION
o E waste is an inevitable byproduct
of technological revolution
o Approx. 20 million tons of e
waste generated per year
o Faster the technological
innovation and consequently a
high obsolete rate poses a direct
challenges for its proper disposal.
SOURCES OF E WASTE
 E-waste comprises of waste electronics
goods which are not fit for their originally
intended use.
 Such electronics goods may be television,
telephones, radios, computers, printers, fax
machines, DVDs and CDs etc.
DYNAMICS OF E-WASTE GENERATION
 PC sales were over million units during 2016- 17,
growing by 16 per cent .
 The consumer electronics market is growing at the
rate of 13-15 per cent annually.
 The cellular subscriber base was up by 96.86 per cent
during 2016-17.
 The total E-waste in India has been estimated to be
1,46,180 Tones per year.
EFFECT ON HEALTH
Takes useful COMPONENTS.
Ferrous metals sold to metal dealers.
Precious metals are recovered in a very dangerous and
hazardous manner
Rest goes to land filling / water filling- disturbs
ecological equilibrium

RESPONSIBILITY OF CITIZEN
E-Waste should never dispose with garbage and other
household wastes.
While buying electronic products opt to those that
1. are made with few toxic components.
2. use recycled components.
3. are energy efficient.
4. offer lease or take back options.
 Customers should opt for upgrading their computers or
other electronic items to the latest versions rather than
buying new equipment.
RESPONSIBILITY OF INDUSTRIES
Generations of wastes should take responsibility to
determine output characteristics of wastes and if hazardous
should provide management options.
Manufacturers,distributers and retailers should undertake the
responsibility of recycling of their own products.
Create components and peripherals of devices of
biodegradable material.
Manufactures must be responsible for educating consumers
regarding the potential threat posed by their products.
RESPONSIBILITY OF GOVERNMENT
 Government must encourage research and development and standard of
hazardous waste management ,environmental monitoring and the
regulations of hazardous waste-disposal.
 Government should enforce strict regulations and heavy fines levied on
industries , which do not practice waste prevention and recovery in the
production facilities.
 Government should enforce strict regulations against dumping of E-Waste
in the country by the outsiders.
 Government should encourage and support NGOs and other organizations
to involve actively in solving the nation’s e-waste problems.
CONCLUSION
 E-Waste is new segment in the global problem of waste.
 The main cause of rapid advancement in technology and
ambition of human.
 E-Waste consists of many useful and precious metals (like
gold,silver,iron,copper etc.) which can be recycled and
hazardous materials(like mercury, lead ,cadmium etc.) must
be disposed properly .
 We should opt best management techniques to achieve this.

  • 3. INTRODUCTION o E waste is an inevitable byproduct of technological revolution o Approx. 20 million tons of e waste generated per year o Faster the technological innovation and consequently a high obsolete rate poses a direct challenges for its proper disposal.
  • 4. SOURCES OF E WASTE  E-waste comprises of waste electronics goods which are not fit for their originally intended use.  Such electronics goods may be television, telephones, radios, computers, printers, fax machines, DVDs and CDs etc.
  • 5. DYNAMICS OF E-WASTE GENERATION  PC sales were over million units during 2016- 17, growing by 16 per cent .  The consumer electronics market is growing at the rate of 13-15 per cent annually.  The cellular subscriber base was up by 96.86 per cent during 2016-17.  The total E-waste in India has been estimated to be 1,46,180 Tones per year.

RESPONSIBILITY OF CITIZEN E-Waste should never dispose with garbage and other household wastes. While buying electronic products opt to those that 1. are made with few toxic components. 2. use recycled components. 3. are energy efficient. 4. offer lease or take back options.  Customers should opt for upgrading their computers or other electronic items to the latest versions rather than buying new equipment.

RESPONSIBILITY OF INDUSTRIES Generations of wastes should take responsibility to determine output characteristics of wastes and if hazardous should provide management options. Manufacturers,distributers and retailers should undertake the responsibility of recycling of their own products. Create components and peripherals of devices of biodegradable material. Manufactures must be responsible for educating consumers regarding the potential threat posed by their products.

RESPONSIBILITY OF GOVERNMENT  Government must encourage research and development and standard of hazardous waste management ,environmental monitoring and the regulations of hazardous waste-disposal.  Government should enforce strict regulations and heavy fines levied on industries , which do not practice waste prevention and recovery in the production facilities.  Government should enforce strict regulations against dumping of E-Waste in the country by the outsiders.  Government should encourage and support NGOs and other organizations to involve actively in solving the nation’s e-waste problems.

CONCLUSION  E-Waste is new segment in the global problem of waste.  The main cause of rapid advancement in technology and ambition of human.  E-Waste consists of many useful and precious metals (like gold,silver,iron,copper etc.) which can be recycled and hazardous materials(like mercury, lead ,cadmium etc.) must be disposed properly .  We should opt best management techniques to achieve this.
