Why Offer Testing Service? <ul><li>Limited Sexual Health Clinics in Perth </li></ul><ul><li>Sexuality sensitive GPs are closing their books </li></ul><ul><li>2-3 week waiting lists for appointments during busy times </li></ul><ul><li>Increasing rates of infectious syphilis </li></ul><ul><li>Periodical survey indicates lower testing rates amongst MSM in WA compared to other states </li></ul>

  7. 7. Stats <ul><li>90 clients, 180 contacts </li></ul><ul><li>70% gay identifying </li></ul><ul><li>12% identify as straight </li></ul><ul><li>16% MSM with a female partner </li></ul><ul><li>4.5% of the tests yielded positive results including HIV, Hep B, Hep C, Gono and Syphilis </li></ul>

Future Directions <ul><li>Pre and Post test discussion training for Positive Services staff to supply HIV + clients with STI testing options </li></ul><ul><li>Advertising the service to heterosexual clients- especially those travelling overseas- in order to address the changing HIV epidemiology in WA </li></ul><ul><li>DoH approved funding for $40,000 to gather stats on MSM testing and increase HIV/STI testing service provision </li></ul>
