At ECOC 2018 in Rome, we presented a joint demo with our partners that addressed key challenges facing today’s network operators as they look to support emerging 5G use cases such as augmented reality and mission-critical communication. The showcase, which involved pioneering SDN-based Ethernet technology capable of delivering ultra-low and deterministic latency for time-sensitive mobile services, was selected by ECOC judges for as the winner of the Best Demo Award.

All rights reserved.77 • Ethernet-based TSN can offer deterministic behavior for high-priority services • The showcased solution allows convergence of 10Gbit/s fronthaul and backhaul traffic over a single 100GbE trunk link • We demonstrated ultra-low latency aggregation of fronthaul services together with best-effort aggregation and transport of backhaul services • The prototyped 100Gbit/s Ethernet aggregator keeps an ultra-low PDV on the high-priority broadcast PTP stream while keeping a low latency on the data traffic • The PoC has been successfully trialed in the field (and demonstrated at ECOC 2018) TSN provides zero loss from congestion and bounded deterministic latency Summary
