Felis Catus
By Maribeth Villanueva & Karis
Heidebrecht
-Introduction-
Many people might know the basics of what a
feline or "cat" is, but who could consider
themselves an expert? Instead of researching
some exotic animal, we decided to do a
common animal that most people only know a
few things about. Also, Karis is going to be a
crazy cat lady when she grows up, so consider
her an expert.

MV & KH
-Quotes-
"Domestic cats are characterized by a number
of well-known physical characteristics. These
include a flexible and compact body, keen
eyesight and adaptations for visual acuity at
night, retractable claws..."-J. Masterson, 2012

This is important again because it is telling us
more information about the physical
characteristics of a cat.
                                          MV
-Quotes-
"If you take untailed cat, turn it with its back
down and then drop it you'll see that cat will
land on its paws while the altitude is less than
two meters." -Dr. Robinson, 2005

This quote is explaining about how a cat
doesn't need a tail for balance. He proves this
by using the untailed cat from Man Island.

                                         MV
-Quotes-

"It is strange but the chances among cats to
survive grow together with the altitude: only 5
percent of them die after the falling from 6-31
floor and 10 percents die after falling from 1-5
floor."-J. Diamond, 2005

I was reading an article about the nine lives of
a cat, (which, isn't true), when I came across
this quote. It is really interesting that they
survive from higher up! MV
-Quote 1-
"Cats' aura of independence fools some people
into thinking they need only minimal care. The
truth is that the average age of stray cats and
ferals is three years; which should be
adequate proof against this myth."-Franny
Syufy, 2012.

This quote proves that cats may seem
independant, but really they need human care
and love to thrive.
                                        K.H.
-Quote 2-
"Both humans and cats have identical regions
in the brain responsible for emotion." -
CatStuff, 2011

This quote proves that cats do have emotions,
just like humans. They may sometimes come
off as emotionless animals, but they can feel
the same way we humans do.
                                           K.H.
-Quote 3-
"Domestic cats have been traced back to a
single wild ancestor whose relatives still live
in the remote deserts of the Middle East
today."-lifescience.com, 2012

This quote proves that house cats came from
wildcats, which explains some of their
behavior.
                                          K.H.
Conclusion
All of this goes to prove that the house cat,
derived from african wild cats, are very
interesting, emotional, lovable animals that
should be treated with respect. They have
many unique characteristics, and are a special
species.
-Reflection-
Cats are very interesting creatures. They have
so much personality and they are so fun to be
around, but there are many facts about cats
that people don't know. We wanted to do a
presentation about cats to inform people
about the less-known facts about the felis
catus.

-K.H.
-Reflection-
The cat is much more than just a common
household pet. It is like a child (actually a
child to some) that wants to love you. If it was
human, I would guess that a cat would be a
teenager, because they like to be lazy but are
also very energetic at times.

                                         MV
-Complements-
Karis gets really into cat facts, so just seeing
her learn more about the creature she loves so
much. In my mind I see this as motivation for
her to work harder! She collected some really
good quotes too. -MV

Maribeth is a really good worker, she gets
things done fast and easily, and it's really nice
to be able to do projects with her. She made
her slides really nice too. -KH
