“One Story Theory”
KEY CONCEPTS RECORDED NOTES
What is one story theory?
Why the same story over and over
again?
“Intertextuality”
What are archetypes
“novel may contain echoes”
The bible and archetype?
Where?
Symbols
One Story Theory is where is “everywhere” it where all story are
based off one another and built upon. Which means that no story is
an original it is just copies of other stories.
WE Hear the same stories because we like comfortability and
predictability and among other things and some things are just so
ingrained into a culture or found interesting and so on.
What I like to call story inception it is what you see in everyday
life we see things all the time that make us go oh is this familiar.
Examples: Any Jurassic Park, Bates Motel and Psycho, The Family
Guy and any type of show like that which is a parody which means
making a mockery out of it in a way.
Archetypes or “pattern” that a storyline falls under and it can be
anything from a hero storyline or a adventure and so on it is
basically a map of a guideline that lots of stories fall under
Saying how all the stories we have are just recreations we make of
other stories it is like pizza with different toppings on it basic jist
slight variation.
Bassically saying that even the story of a religious figure is an an
archetype or even fit under an archetype just explaining that it is all
to it.
Everywhere literally in songs in your speech what you say to
people all based off of one thing or story
Which is what clues us in on one story what gives us the hint of
what happening like the knife from pshyco or starwar and space
balls lightsaber symbolism with the shwartz ring and so on.
SUMMARY: To sum up what we learned is the One story theory is that nothing is truly original that we
see today it is all variations of the same like pizza. We also see intertextuality with shows bringing in other

other elements of the story into itself making you have a little aha moment in your life. Which also means
there can be a parody of something which in today's world is a little more comedic aka the scary movie
franchise. Then we archetypes the blueprint of the story which allows it to follow a certain pattern AKA
the hero storyline or so on.
