Digital Citizenship <ul><li>Is the rules and knowledge of how to act when using digital technology </li></ul><ul><li>Ranges from manners to use to teaching people things to effects on your health </li></ul><ul><li>Is comprised of 9 Norms or sections </li></ul><ul><li>Norms are interrelated </li></ul>

The Digital Citizenship Norms <ul><li>Etiquette – Standards of how to act and communicate with others </li></ul><ul><li>Communication – Exchange of information and data electronically </li></ul><ul><li>Literacy – Knowledge of what tech. is and how to use it </li></ul><ul><li>Access – Accessibility to people in general </li></ul><ul><li>Commerce – Buying and selling of items online </li></ul><ul><li>Law – Responsibility and repercussions of actions taken online that violate rules </li></ul>

Digital Health and Wellness <ul><li>This extends to how digital technology can aid or harm your health </li></ul><ul><li>Attempts to educate people about digital habits that can harm their health </li></ul><ul><li>Also looks at psychological effects – how digital bullying can effect peoples minds </li></ul>

Net Gen <ul><li>Current generation of teenagers known as the Net Gen </li></ul><ul><li>Stands for Network Generation </li></ul><ul><li>Have several characteristics that distinctly set them apart from other generations </li></ul><ul><li>Characteristics are known as the Net Gen Norms </li></ul><ul><li>Considered by some to be ‘dumbest’ generation of people so far, by far </li></ul>

Net Gen Norms <ul><li>Freedom – Want complete freedom in every aspect of life </li></ul><ul><li>Customization – Want to pick choose everything, have it designed to their liking </li></ul><ul><li>Scrutiny – Try to find something’s true or not a lot </li></ul><ul><li>Integrity – Want leaders, people to act by their word and honestly </li></ul>

Net Gen Norms Cont. <ul><li>Collaboration – Love working with others, but blur line between thinking together and copying work and ideas </li></ul><ul><li>Entertainment – Want work, life in general to be fun </li></ul><ul><li>Speed – Into fact paced, instant feedback, communication in everything </li></ul><ul><li>Innovation – Like newest, most cutting edge of things, whatever hot off presses </li></ul>

Speed & Innovation <ul><li>Sometimes will sacrifice quality for speed </li></ul><ul><li>At times don’t think before responding </li></ul><ul><li>Can be very impulsive </li></ul><ul><li>Want newest thing instantly – despite when last version came out </li></ul><ul><li>Can try to use things before tested for effects on younger bodies </li></ul><ul><li>Don’t always respect inventors right to their creation </li></ul>

Effects of Speed on Health & Wellness <ul><li>Tendency to respond quickly can lead to making comments that hurt feelings of other people </li></ul><ul><li>May not fully read instructions of technology before using </li></ul><ul><li>Overuse of technology can damage eyes, wrists, other parts of body </li></ul>

Effects of Innovation on Health & Wellness <ul><li>May use items before all health effects are discovered, leading to quick and long-term effects </li></ul><ul><li>Pace of usage can create large amounts of pollution, waste that can damage health </li></ul><ul><li>Impatience can lead to insulting, ridiculing others </li></ul>

Benefits of this <ul><li>Familiarity with brand tech. can be useful in school – instant feedback on grades from teachers, working on projects with sick classmates </li></ul><ul><li>Like asking questions to gain better understanding of things </li></ul><ul><li>Try to tie things together a lot </li></ul>

What teachers can do with this <ul><li>Harness energy by giving tasks that force to think outside of box, come up with new methods </li></ul><ul><li>Give work using technology that allows for students to use knowledge of technology more freely </li></ul><ul><li>Help students understand that should think before commenting most of the time </li></ul><ul><li>Help students to learn about the potential health effects of technologies </li></ul>
