Deconstruction of cover

  1. 1. Masthead – The masthead “Mixmag” is very bold and goes across the whole top of the cover, it contrasts very well with the background colour, which makes it stand out more, thus making it a lot more eye-catching for the reader. Although the main picture cuts out part of the masthead you can still make out what it is meant to say, as it is a very recognizable magazine so most people will still know what it says. Colour Scheme – The colour scheme is very good as all colours on the cover contrast very well with each other making them stand out more, it is mostly white and red colours for writing as “Steve” is coloured in white and “Aoki” is coloured in red. Most of the writing has a small white background that surrounds it so that the writing stands out more against the black rather than the background colour. Main Image – The main image stands out very well as he is wearing colours that match the colour scheme of the cover so he stands out well on the background as well, they have made it look like Steve aoki (the person in the picture) that he is levitating, this makes him look like he is a god like figure that can levitate above others, this would be very eye catching for people looking at the magazine. Sell Lines – All the sell lines in this magazine are the same font size, this shows that they are all as equally important a the rest and that they haven’t been enlarged to stand out more. One of the sell lines is that its saying “Bicep bring the muscle” which shows that it is promoting fitness. Another sell line is where it says win a trip, if you don’t know what “ADE” is you might want to buy this magazine to try and win a trip to this said place.
  2. 2. Masthead – The masthead “DJ” is very visible and placed at the top left hand corner of the page. It is placed there due to the “golden line” that runs across the page, it’s the line the eye follows when it glances over something. It is very bold and stands out on the background, since the masthead isn't very long they can make it very large making it the thing you see first when you have a look at this magazine, so you know what type of genre it is and who it will appeal to. Colour Schemes – The colour scheme for this magazine cover is good as the background is a completely different colour to all of the headlines which makes them stand out of the page more. The pink contrasts very well with the colours around it which make it stand out loads so if you didn’t know who the picture was of, the pink writing would stand out and tell you. Main Image – They have edited the image with some effects so that the he stands out more, they have made it look like he is standing in the shade on the right side of his body which makes his face look more serious, which is good use of effects for a picture to stand out and catch the readers attention. They have positioned him in a good place on the page as well which allows the whole magazine masthead to not be blocked by the image. Sell Lines – All the sell lines in this magazine are the same font size, this shows that they are all as equally important a the rest and that they haven’t been enlarged to stand out more. The main article is about the upcoming festival “UMF”.
  3. 3. Masthead – the masthead vibe gets covered by the main artist, this is because it is a very well known magazine and T.I. is a typical artist that would be included in this style of magazine, he does not cover the start of the masthead with the huge red letter V, this is because when anyone looks at that they will most likely know what magazine it is without having to see the whole masthead. It also stands out very well against the background colour of this magazine, this is to catch the readers eye when they are looking through the shelf of magazines. Colour Scheme – The colour scheme for this magazine cover is good as the background is a completely different colour to all of the headlines which makes them stand out of the page more. The black/blue contrasts very well with the title, also the image has been made brighter in areas to make it stand out more against what clothes etc. he is wearing. Main Image – they have edited the image so that some parts are very shaded and dark and some areas that are really bright as if there is a light pointing at certain areas on him when the photo was taken. It is a medium/close-up photo and it looks like he is staring right at the reader. Sell Lines – The sell lines in this magazine seem to be based off the larger the font the more important or the more valuable the sell line is, for example if there is an article on something not very important the font would be a very small size compared to something that is.
