Research Project

 1. 1. Research Project By Will Rivenbark
 2. 2. Modem

Modem is actually short for modulator/demodulator. It is what allows you to communicate with other computers.

 3. 3. Information Processing Cycle

1.Sender - The computer that is sending the message.

2. Receiver - The computer receiving the message.

3. Channel - The media that carries the message

4. Protocol - The rules that govern the orderly transfer of the data sent.

 4. 4. Data Communications LAN

LAN stands for Local Area Networks which are computers connected together in a relatively close location such as in the same building or department.

 5. 5. Data Communications WAN

WAN stands for Wide Area Networks and those are local area networks that are expanded to include several local area networks within a city, state, region, territory, country, continent, or the world.

 6. 6. Arithmetic/Logic Unit

It performs arithmet ic computations and logica l operations; by combining these two operations the ALU can execute complex tasks.

 7. 7. Control Unit

The control unit is the “boss” and coordinates all of the CPU’s activities. Uses programming instructions, it controls the flow of information through the processor by controlling what happens inside the processor.

 8. 8. Random Access Memory

RAM Memory - Memory on the motherboard that is short term; where data, information, and program instructions are stored temporarily on a RAM chips.

 9. 9. Data Representation

Byte- eight bits or combinations of ones and zeros represent a character.

MB-Megabyte or roughly 1 million bytes

GB-Gigabyte or roughly one billion bytes

64 GB IPOD Touch------------------- 
