What is a recipe?
A recipe is a set of instructions that describe how to prepare or make something, especially a culinary dish.

Which are the components of a recipe?
The name
The time needed to prepare the dish
The season in which is better to cook it
The servings
The ingredients: quantities and proportions
The directions: list of preparation steps
The tips: suggestions

Verb tense to build up a recipe
Since a recipe is made up of instructions, we should use a verb tense expressing orders
The Imperative
Ordering people what to do
Giving instructions and advices
Making recommendations and suggestions
Making offers

Imperative forms
Affirmative form: infinitive without to (bare infinitive)
ex. Wait!
Negative form: Don’t + bare infinitive
ex. Don’t wait!
Emphatic form: Do + bare infinitive
ex. Do wait here!

Use the imperative for your recipe
When creating your recipe you should use the imperative form to give instructions.
Use the Affirmative and Negative form to tell the reader what to do.
Ex. Remove the pan from the stove.
Add water.
