  • Thank you Mr. Chairman, for your gently and kindly words! Good Morning ladies and gentlemen!! I very proud to present to you not only the new product: The Portuguese Electronic Passport but also a new service for all electronic documents! This service, is the e-Box RAPID!!! What is a e-Box RAPID??? Is a electronic machine that controls Passenger by Automatic Recognition of the face after Identification by the document. This is a new concept of border control services To implement this concept we have two main goals: - One is transform the border control in a Fast and a Easy operation for the passengers; - Other is strong increase of the security level of the operation. Why we do this project? Significant boost to the number of passengers; - The increase of passenger in Portuguese airports was more than 12% for this year Enhanced Service Levels at Airports; - The passenger can’t stay no more than 15 m in queue: Competitiveness of national tourism; In south of Portugal, in Algarve we have at the FARO Airport more than 90% of the passengers are from United Kingdom and Ireland (Europeans and non Schengen countries). This factors make the Faro Airport the best location to perform the test; Cost reduction - More than a 15% in the cost reduction in border control by passenger - with the actual number of passports! Another very important factor is the Electronic Passport and I like to present you some features of the Portuguese electronic Passport
