Zoltán Kun, Executive Director of PAN Parks Foundation, presented arguments for wilderness conservation in Europe to convince politicians. Key points included: (1) Wilderness makes up only 1% of Europe's land but is a scarce resource, (2) Wild threats and opportunities exist to restore abandoned land to wilderness, (3) PAN Parks works to protect wilderness areas and form a connected European Wilderness Preservation System. Research is needed to map wilderness, prove biodiversity benefits, find innovative financing, and understand social benefits to enhance wilderness protection.
