  • 1. What is Business Writing? All writing, whether it is a memo, a personal letter, an e-mail, or a business letter, takes time. Writers do not just sit down and write without going through a particular process. This is especially true in business writing because business correspondence must always be clear so that the reader will not misunderstand what the writer is saying. Business writing focuses on the reader and the purpose of the letter. Business Writing Process 1 Identify the reader(s) Use the message planner. 2 Identify the important information Use the message planner. 3 Organize the information effectively Use the functional format. 4 Write the draft Write a rough draft of the entire document. 5 Allow time for the draft to cool Separate the writing and editing time.
  • 2. 6 Edit and revise Make changes so that the writing is direct, concise, and clear. 7 Write the final document Write the document that you will send.
