Why did the Egyptians mummify the dead? The Egyptians mummified the dead because they believed that thatwould help keep the ka or spirit of the dead person. They also believedthat the ka or spirit of the person would face trials in the afterlife. Using mummification they believed that the dead person would be able toenjoy all the pleasures of the afterlife. They thought that the best way todo that was to actually preserve the body . They did this by mummifying the dead. After the person was mummified, they were fitted with a death mask to show a longer existence of the person.
