  • MESSAGE FROM THE QUR’AN The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but Allah’s messenger - [the fulfillment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. • MESSAGE FROM THE QUR’AN Allah is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son; unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as Allah.” (Surah an-Nisa’: 4: 171) 11 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • “ CHRISTIANITY (AS IS NOW KNOWN) IS NOT THE RELIGION OF JESUS A.S. BUT A RELIGION CREATED FROM THE LIFE AND ‘DEATH’ OF JESUS.”- Not merely the Islamic perspective but acknowledged too by other historians, theologians and objective scholars. 12 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT?  Jesus a.s. was sent to the Israelite (Bani Israel). “ He (Jesus) answered: ‘I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel’ ” (Mathew:15:24) 13 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT? Jesus a.s. was sent in continuation of prophethood amongst the Israelite (Bani Israel) and enjoined them to follow the Law. “Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets, I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.” (Mathew:5:17) 14 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT? Jesus a.s. spoke “Aramaic” (a  Hebrew dialect) almost similar to Arabic. 15 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT? He was referred to with the  title “Messiah” (Hebrew) which is the equivalent to “al-Maseeh” in Arabic - in both languages it means “the anointed one” from the root word ‘masaha’ – i.e. “to wipe, rub over with, anoint”. 16 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT? The word “messiah” was later  translated into Greek which is “Kristos” (which has the meaning of ‘the anointed’). And from this Greek word it was kept in use, even in English with the Latinized spelling “Christ”. From this we get the word “Christians”. 17 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT? we are told that many years after Jesus time  (circa 100 CE), at a place called Antioch, the remnant followers of Jesus, was ridiculed, persecuted and mocked by their enemies. These Greek people started to refer them (followers of the prophet Jesus a.s. at that time) as “these are Christians”, implying wrongly that they “worshipped Jesus” – whereas they were of the Judaic tradition that believed in monotheism (One God). 18 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT? “… the real founder of Christianity is actually Paul…” (Michael S Hart “The 10 Most influential personality in History”) 19 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • A GOOD REFERENCE ED ND E “EARLY CHRISTIAN M OM EC R DOCTRINES” J.N.D. KELLY “This book is a clear, precise and up-to-date account of early history of Christian doctrine. It is invaluable for an understanding of the formative period when the main lines of Christian dogma were laid down; and it presents a balanced picture of the early controversies in the light of modern scholarship.” (Comment by Cyril . Richardson) Dr. J. N. D. Kelly – Principal of St. Edmund Hall, Oxford. England. An authority on patristic Christian thought. [Harper & Row, Publishers] 20 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT? Jesus a.s. came for the Jews but Paul was interested to popularize this teaching amongst the Hellenized world (Romans and Greek). Scholars considered him to be a Hellenized Jew (i.e. a Jew strongly influenced by Greek culture and ways of life). He was not amongst the original disciples of Jesus. He was originally a persecutor but then later converted, claiming to have seen a ‘vision’. 21 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT? After Paul’s ‘conversion’ to this  religion, he offered interpretations of what the religion should be, which included changing the Jewish ways with that of Greek and Roman ideas to gain converts amongst the gentiles (non-Jews). 22 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT? The strictly monotheistic faith of the religion amongst the Bani Israel were compromised into adapting and adopting the Trinitarian belief and other practices of the pagan Mediterranean religions of the Greek, Roman, Persian and Egyptian. 23 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT? Thus we saw a split amongst  those who claimed to be the followers of Jesus teachings. 24 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT? In 325 CE, the conflict between the  Unitarian versus the *Pauline Trinitarian was ruthlessly ended by the decree of king Constantine at the Council of Nicaea. * Pauline – from teachings of Paul 25 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • WHEN AND HOW THE TERM “CHRISTIANITY” CAME ABOUT? Through subsequent Synods and Councils organized by the Church, new creed and beliefs were adopted. Those who opposed the Church’s ruling were condemned as heretics and persecuted. Thus Pauline doctrines became dominant. 26 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005

  • ISLAMIC CALL TO CHRISTIANS “Say: ‘O People of the Book! • CONCEPT OF GOD ISLAM CHRISTIANITY Say: “He is the One God: The Father is fully God. God the Eternal, the The Son is fully God. Uncaused Cause of All The Holy Spirit is fully God. Being, He begets not, They are not three gods but One. neither is He begotten: and there is nothing that could (extracted from Apostolic creed) be compared with Him.” (Qur’an: Surah al-Ikhlas: 112) Note: The Christians emphasized the above that “they (i.e. the Father, the Son and the Holy “... And Jesus was baptized, They are not three gods but One. he went up immediately from (extracted from Apostolic creed) the water and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the SPIRIT OF GOD Note: The Christians emphasized descending like a dove, and the above that “they (i.e. the alighting on him; and lo a Father, the Son and the Holy voice from heaven saying: Spirit) are distinct but not This is my beloved SON, separate”.... whatever that with whom I am well means !?! (note how confused pleased.” they are ! Even linguistically this assertion is preposterous) (Matthew 3: 13-17) 32 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005

If we refer (extracted from Apostolic creed) to their Bible, there is no explicit (clear i.e. without need for interpretations) Note: The Christians emphasized the sayings of Jesus concerning Trinity or above that “they (i.e. the Father, the about himself claiming to be God. Son and the Holy Spirit) are distinct Whereas Jesus explicitly teaches but not separate”.... whatever that Tauhiid, e.g. : means !?! (note how confused they are ! Even linguistically this assertion is preposterous) “And one of the scribes come up and asked him, ‘Which commandment is the first of all?’ Jesus answered ‘Hear O Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is One!” (Mark 12: 28-29) 33 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005

  • CONCEPT OF GOD REBUTTALS CHRISTIANITY Simple explanation in Matthew 28: 19: .... teaching Trinity ? These words does not mean that Jesus teaches Trinity, rather the use of the phrase “..in the name of ” signify authoritative basis for “...Jesus said to them, go forth preaching.”. Example an ambassador acting on behalf of and make disciples of them the government and country will and baptize them in the sign “in the name of the head of name of the Father, of the state and the country, but writing his own name.” The teaching of Son and of the Holy spirit...” the religion is with the authority (Gospel of Matthew 28: 19) sanction by God, His angel and His Messenger. Just as it is wrong to say that the ambassador is also literally the Some Christian would country, thus it would be wrong quote this to justify.. to say that the Messenger is also God. 36 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005

  • They the Christians will offer the Bible as their evidence W hat is the Bible? 46 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • The Bible ...… some facts. The name “Bible” is not found in the  Bible. This term “Bible” comes from the Greek  work “Biblion” which means “collection of writings or book”. The total number of books that make up  the Bible differ between the Catholic’s (they have 73 books) and Protestant Christian’s (only accept 66 books). 47 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • The Bible ...… some facts. It can be divided into 2 parts:  Old testament – Jewish writings written originally in Hebrew, compiled over a period of 2,000 years; many of its authors are unknown. New Testament – the oldest manuscripts written in Koine Greek (not Aramaic which was the language that Jesus spoke), comprise of the 4 Gospels and letters written by Paul and others. 48 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • The Bible ...… some facts. The most popular Bible e.g. the King  James (the Authorized version) and the Latin Vulgate in used was based on an ancient text. Since then, they have discovered more ancient texts, and Christian biblical scholars have to revise their Bible to ensure accuracy. And they admit that there has been interpolations done to the Bible. 49 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • The Bible ...… some facts. Their admission:  “Yet the King James version has serious defects. ….. And discovery of many biblical manuscripts more ancient than those on which the King James version was based made it apparent that these defects were so many as to call for a revision.” (Forward in the New Revised Standard version of the Bible) 50 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005

  • Summary : what is the Bible? It is a collection of writings.  Generally it contains recordings of  the history of the Jewish people. Written and re-written by scribes (especially when the Jews lost these during their enslavement by Persians and Romans or because the recordings tended to fade). 55 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • Summary : what is the Bible? It may contain words of prophets; some  eye-witness or even hearsay accounts of what had happened; it may contain quotations of perhaps revelations from God; it may contain interpretations and interpolations of people regarding the religion; etc. Biblical scholars admit that many were  written by anonymous (unknown) person or persons; sometimes conveniently attributed to certain prophets. 56 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • Summary : what is the Bible? The Gospels (according to Mark,  Mathew, Luke and John) are not the same as what we Muslims refer to as the “Injeel” of Prophet Jesus a.s. The Pentateuch (first 5 Books said to be  the book of Moses : the Torah) is not the same as what we Muslims refer to as the “Taurat” of Prophet Moses a.s. 57 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • Summary : what is the Bible? The Psalm (of David) is not the same as  what we Muslims refer to as the “Zabur” of Prophet David a.s. As the collections called the Bible have  been tampered with and interpolations made by people, we cannot be certain of its total reliability and authenticity. For Muslims, the Qur’an is the  “Furqaan” (Criterion to determine what for us, is the Truth and what is not). 58 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • Summary : what is the Bible? Revisions have been made to the  Bible when a much older manuscripts were found. Still these manuscripts are not those dated to the time of Jesus a.s. (because these were written in Greek, whereas Jesus a.s. never spoke Greek but Aramaic). 59 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
  • So when we Muslims say we Believe in the Taurat, Zabur and Injeel, we do not mean we believe in the Bible! Only the Qur’an has remained the only authentic Book of revelations from Allah, still preserved exactly as it was “recited”, in the original language as when it was revealed. 60 AllRightsReserved©Zhulkeflee2005
