Behold thy Lord said to the angels: "I will create a vicegerent on earth." They said "Wilt thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood? Whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)?" He said: "I know what ye know not." (Q: 2:32)
And He taught Adam the names of all things; then He placed them before the angels and said: "Tell Me the names of these if ye are right." (Q: 2:32)
They said: "Glory to Thee: of knowledge we have none, save that Thou hast taught us: in truth it is Thou who art perfect in knowledge and wisdom." (Q: 2:32)
He said: "O Adam! tell them their names." When he had told them their names, Allah said: "Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of heaven and earth, and I know what ye reveal and what ye conceal?" (Q: 2:33)
And behold We said to the angels: "Bow down to Adam"; and they bowed down: not so Iblis : he refused and was haughty: he was of those who reject Faith. (Q: 2:34)
We said: "O Adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden and eat of the bountiful things therein as (where and when) ye will; but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm and transgression." (Q: 2:35)
Then did Satan make them slip from the (Garden) and get them out of the state (of felicity) in which they had been. We said: "Get ye down all (ye people) with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling place and your means of livelihood for a time." . (Q: 2:36)
Then learnt Adam from his Lord words of inspiration and his Lord turned toward him; for He is Oft-Returning Most Merciful. We said: "Get ye down all from here; and if, as is sure, there comes to you guidance from Me " whosoever follows My guidance on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. (Q: 2:37-38)
Thus, what our Prophet Muhammad s.a,w. received was not something new - as this phenomena had already occurred before him.
Thus those, termed the “ People of the Book ” amongst those of Abrahamic line i.e. the Jews and Christians, would be the independent parties than can corroborate - not deny but confirm this.
Generally it contains recordings of the history of the Jewish people. Written and re-written by scribes (especially when the Jews lost these during their enslavement by Persians and Romans or because the recordings tended to fade).
Old testament – Jewish writings written originally in Hebrew, compiled over a period of 2,000 years; many of its authors are unknown.
New Testament – the oldest manuscripts written in Koine Greek (not Aramaic which was the language that Jesus spoke), comprise of the 4 Gospels and letters written by Paul and others.
The most popular Bible e.g. the King James (the Authorized version) and the Latin Vulgate in used was based on an ancient text. Since then, they have discovered more ancient texts, and Christian biblical scholars have to revise their Bible to ensure accuracy. And they admit that there has been interpolations done to the Bible.
“ Yet the King James version has serious defects. ….. And discovery of many biblical manuscripts more ancient than those on which the King James version was based made it apparent that these defects were so many as to call for a revision.”
( Forward in the New Revised Standard version of the Bible )
It may contain words of prophets; some eye-witness or even hearsay accounts of what had happened; it may contain quotations of perhaps revelations from God; it may contain interpretations and interpolations of people regarding the religion; etc.
Biblical scholars admit that many were written by anonymous (unknown) person or persons; sometimes conveniently attributed to certain prophets.
The Gospels (according to Mark, Mathew, Luke and John) are not the same as what we Muslims refer to as the “ Injeel” of Prophet Jesus a.s .
The Pentateuch (first 5 Books said to be the book of Moses : the Torah) is not the same as what we Muslims refer to as the “ Taurat” of Prophet Moses a.s .
The Psalm (of David) is not the same as what we Muslims refer to as the “ Zabur” of Prophet David a.s .
As the collections called the Bible have been tampered with and interpolations made by people, we cannot be certain of its total reliability and authenticity.
For Muslims, the Qur’an is the “Furqaan” (Criterion to determine what for us, is the Truth and what is not).
Revisions have been made to the Bible when a much older manuscripts were found. Still these manuscripts are not those dated to the time of Jesus a.s. (because these were written in Greek, whereas Jesus a.s. never spoke Greek but Aramaic).
Only the Qur’an has remained the only authentic Book of revelations from Allah, still preserved exactly as it was “recited”, in the original language as when it was revealed.
Oh Allah, have mercy on me in the name of the great Qur‘an, make it for me a guide and light, And guidance and mercy,
Oh Allah, make me remember that of it which I have forgotten,
Make me know of it, that which I have become ignorant of, And make me recite it in the hours of the night and day, And make it an argument for me, O Sustainer of all the worlds,
Oh Allah, set right my faith (religion) which is the safeguard of all my affairs, And set right for me my world affairs wherein is my living, And set right for me my Hereafter on which depends my after life,
And make my life a source of abundance for every goodness, And make my death a source of relief for me, protecting me from every evil,
Oh Allah! I ask you for the best in all affairs, The best supplication, The best success, The best knowledge, The best deed, The best reward, The best life, And The best death. Keep me upright, Make my scale heavy,
confirm my faith, raise high my status (in the hereafter), Accept my Swolah , And forgive my sins, I ask You for high positions in Paradise,
Oh Allah! Allow us to enjoy (truly benefit) our hearing, our sight, and our strength for as long as we live, And make that enjoyment as our legacy (so that the people that we leave behind benefit from its effect and could
continue to pray for us), and we leave to You our vengeance upon those that have wronged us, And give us victory over our enemies, And try us not in our faith,
Neither make this world our greatest concern, nor the extent of our knowledge, Nor give to those who is merciless, power to rule over us (i.e. who would oppress us),
Oh Allah! Leave no sins of ours in this assembly except that You have forgiven them, Nor leave any grief without it being relieved (by You),
Nor any debt without it being paid (settled), Nor any difficulty in this life or the hereafter without it being facilitated, Oh! the Most Merciful of all that is merciful,
Our Lord! Give us the good of this world and the hereafter, And save us from the torment of the Hell-fire,
