  • 1. Zac I thought you might what a copy ofsome of these family photographs. This is the living-room in Chappaqua( the painting should look familiar). Thepuppy in Anns arms was Happy. Mymother is on the couch with my paternalgrandparents-Eden Augustus TownsendJr (Gus) and Edith Marie Coulter. 1967.This is Christmas 1968. That diningroom wallpaper in Chappaqua was veryopulent.
  • 2. The above picture is my grandfather Guswith your grandfather Jack. I rememberGus loved cartoons and would watchthem on television with me for hours. Healso taught me how to shoplift candybefore I was in elementary school (Hewas an expert as a store-owner). MyGrandmother Marie was not amused.
  • 3. These are pictures of my mother, yourgrandmother : Barbara Mae IngrahamOn the left is Aunt Trish (Cheryls mom)These are your grandparents on thebeach in Rockport, Mass. We spent 2-3weeks in August there every summeruntil my Mom died in 1975 (on yourbirthday!)This is your Grandmother. I am not sureif this is me, or earlier when my parentslived in Queens. The hairdo suggests1950s and Flushing, NY.
  • 4. These are pictures of your Grandfather:Dwight Jackson Townsend. He had anUncle Dwight on both sides of hisfamily. This photo is either senior year in ApolloPA. (He was class president andvaledictorian) or at Penn State during thewar. This is your Grandfather in the early1930s. I believe the photo on the pianois his grandmother, my great-greatgrandmother Gertrude. This is your grandfather holding Dwightafter Dwight was baptized. Those are allhis grandsons.
  • 5. These Pictures are from your paternalGrandparents wedding - 11/11/1950Gus and Maria Townsend on the left, and my mothers parents on the right:Percy Arnold and Mae Ingraham, bothof the Ingrahams died before I was born.Chris met them both, Ann only Mae.Mae was very unpleasant (according tothe family lore). The day Aunt Trishgraduated from High School, Percymoved out and got an apartment. Percydied reaching for a book in the Yorkpublic library---like a light bulb burningout.Nice Cake! (and check out the gloves onGrandma).
  • 6. These are very interesting concerningthe Townsend family in Apollo PA. Thebooklet to the left is in perfect conditionand includes a history of Apollo writtenby your Grandfather (below). I havesealed them in plastic. Your Grandfatheralso wrote a history of the Bank of NewYork for the banks bicentennial. It is, ofcourse, very complementary toAlexander Hamilton. I have a copy ofthe History with my books (somewhere).
  • 7. This are two clippings from yourGrandfathers papers. Driving the Car ismy Grandfather (Gus) with his father inthe passenger seat. Gus sister (AuntLouise) is in the backset, but I am notsure which women she is? My fatherquoted Aunt Louise often when hecooked (apparently Louise had a veryhigh opinion of her own cooking)."Well, if I do say so myself, that wasdelicious".Gertrude was my fathers Grandmotherand ruled the Townsend household withan iron fist. She was your great-great-great Grandmother. My Grandmother(Marie) had to enter the Townsend housethrough the backdoor (with the servants)until my father was born.Gertrudes sister, Mrs. Steward was themother of the actor Jimmy Steward(Cousin Jimmy). I only know that hisfirst Oscar was in their shop window inIndiana PA. for years.
  • 8. These are two interesting things I foundwith my fathers stuff:A complete NYTimes when JFK wasshot, I would assume there are many, butno reason not to hang on to it. It makes anice companion piece to my Times copyof the WTC bombings. My father has about 10 of these first daycancellations celebrating the ABA, forwhom he worked from about 1945 until1960. I have to take them to a philatelist--who knows!
