SN20100221-Cheer Each Other On

 1. 2. “ I can live for two months on a good compliment.” – Mark Twain
 2. 3. A little boy said to his Dad, “Let’s play darts, Dad. I’ll throw and you say, ‘Great shot’”.
 3. 4. Our duty is not to see through one another, but to see one another through.
 4. 5. “ CHEERING EACH OTHER ON” Hebrews 10:19-25
 5. 6. 19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:19-25
 6. 7. Christological Arguments

Christ as superior to angels (Heb 1:1-4)

1 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
 7. 8. Christological Arguments

Christ as superior to angels (Heb 1:1-4)

2. Jesus is greater than Moses (Hebrews 3:1-6) 1 Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. 2 He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God's house. 3 Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. 4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. 5 Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's house, testifying to what would be said in the future. 6 But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.
 8. 9. Christological Arguments

Christ as superior to angels (Heb 1:1-4)

2. Jesus is greater than Moses (Hebrews 3:1-6) 3. Jesus is our High Priest (Heb 4:14-16) 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
 9. 10. “ Confidence” in access to God is based upon Christ’s saving work. Hebrews 3:6; 4:16; 10:35; “ 6 But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.” “ 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence , so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” “ 35 So do not throw away your confidence ; it will be richly rewarded.”
 10. 11. Hebrews 9:11-14 describes to us the blood of Christ ; 11 When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood , having obtained eternal redemption. 13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ , who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
 11. 12. Three (3) Exhortations in Hebrews 10:22-25 Christians are called to act faithfully upon their confidence to enter by the blood of Christ into God’s presence. With a sincere heart in full assurance of faith because his heart is sprinkled to cleanse us from the guilty conscience.

Let us draw near

 12. 13. Three (3) Exhortations in Hebrews 10:22-25 It calls forth a faithful, unwavering embrace of the confession of our hope

Let us draw near

2. Let us hold fast

 17. 18. FINAL THOUGHT Encouragement! We all need it, especially in our walk of faith. The book of Hebrews tells us to keep urging each other on. "Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, . . . but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” Heb 10:24-25
