  • 1. “ Fellowship of Believers” Romans 12; Ephesians 4, 1 Corinthians 12 By: Sonny Naz [Pastor] August 5, 2007
  • 2. “ I believe in … the communion of saints”
  • 3. … we are what we believe…
  • 4. We believe that the church is the body of Christ, a living organism. It is not a crowd, not a multitude of individuals each doing his or her own thing; it is not some kind of secret society. But it is a very definite body, with Christ as the Head.
  • 5. “ Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:3
  • 6. “ Communion of Saints is…” 1. A Spiritual Reality “ It is not something that we established but only by Christ Himself.”
  • 7. Within the body, all are distinct, for no member possesses all powers, nor does one take to himself a particular office in the body. But God has distributed various gifts to us and given us different places according to His own good pleasure.
  • 8. "For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10
  • 9. “ fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household , built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. " Eph 2:19b-22
  • 10. … is a composite of two words, come and union . When those two words are placed together they tell us that there is a union that causes people to come together . [Com•mun•ion]
  • 11. Just as every single member of the human race partakes of the sinful nature of Adam, so the communion of saints means that every member of the body of Christ partakes of His spiritual nature. We are like Him. II Peter 1:4 says that, we are partakers of the divine nature.
  • 12. Saints are holy. A saint, according to Scripture, is a man who has been set aside for and in Christ. "To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus:“ Ephesians 1:1
  • 13. … .a communion of life… When we gather together to partake of the Lord's Supper, we come to that table, we must, confessing that all our life and all our nature and all our gifts are in Christ, and that we are partakers of His heavenly life .
  • 14. … .a communion of love… "Let us love one another."
  • 15. … .a communion of gift… One person does not have every gift, nor is there any within the body that has no gift.
  • 16. “ Communion of Saints is…” 1. A Spiritual Reality 2. A Practical Exercise a. Walk not in ungodly " And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; " Genesis 3:15a
  • 17. “ Communion of Saints is…” 1. A Spiritual Reality 2. A Practical Exercise a. Walk not in ungodly b. Walk in the truth “ for your love is ever before me, and I walk continually in your truth.” - Psalm 26:3
  • 18. "It doesn't really matter where you worship, just so you feel comfortable doing so." Deceiving thoughts…
  • 19. “ Communion of Saints is…” 1. A Spiritual Reality 2. A Practical Exercise a. Walk not in ungodly b. Walk in the truth a. Walk in God’s will
  • 20. The members do not function apart from the body.
  • 21. “ Communion of Saints is…” 1. A Spiritual Reality 2. A Practical Exercise 3. A Possibility
  • 22. Righteousness and holiness are the only way to experience the “communion of saints”. And therefore only in the confession of sin and daily repentance can we live with a clear conscience in the presence of God.
  • 23. “ Be devoted to one another in brotherly love . Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor , serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality .” Romans 12:10-13
  • 24. ...Amen. The word itself means “So be it” or “I agree” or “Yes, this is true.”
  • 25. The Christian church says amen to the whole creed and to every part of it because these things are really true.
  • 26. It’s not enough to say or to recite the Creed regularly. You must at some point decide whether or not you actually believe what you are saying.
  • 27. Final thought: We started with God and ended with life everlasting. In between we touched on all the major doctrines of our faith.
  • 28. As believers, we believe more than the Apostles’ Creed, but we don’t believe less. This is the irreducible minimum that we always believed. The creed reminds us that Christianity has a doctrinal basis.
  • 29. Apostles’ Creed doesn’t tell us every thing we need to know, but it does tell us where we must begin.
