    • Subscriber Migration to 3G Service • Japan’s cellular phone market is one of the most advanced in the world, characterized by high percentage of postpaid subscriptions(over 99%) and broad adoption of 3G(over 96%). • 3G can accommodate larger traffic volumes compared to 2G. A growth in the packet data traffic volume indicates potential demand for data communications.     • Phase 0: Pre All-IP Network (Integrated ATM Network) (2001) At start of 3G (FOMA) service in 2001 • Voice services traffic was dominant and data traffic was relatively small volume. Network needs to handle; voice services traffic with high quality, as well as, both voice services and data traffic simultaneously • ATM was the best technology to realize above requirements.     • Phase 2:Integrated All-IP NW(IMS introduction for 3G voice, around 2010) IMS introduction for 3G voice services has benefit for operator to reduce CAPEX/OPEX. • Replace traditional switch to general-purpose server base nodes. • Only PS domain required. Voice communication can be provided through PS domain. • Re-use of IMS for other access systems.     • CS-GW’s function •CS-GW’s function is to convert CC/MM to SIP. •With CS-GW all users can use any existing UE in IMS networks. •With the traditional method (e.g. through GPRS), users can only use SIP functions provided by the UE.     • Bandwidth control to keep QoS •To keep QoS of voice service in IMS network the same as in 3G-CS NW, the proposed IMS network adds a function to control bandwidth virtually. •The control is executed by bandwidth build-up based on the number of sessions. •CSCF and CS-GW build up bandwidth in response to each session type (voice or AV) and control call admission. AS CSCF executes bandwidth control on each AS route.     • Aggressive schedule for migration(IMS introduction) We just launched a plan for IMS introduction last March. We will complete the plan in two years.     • DOCOMO’s SEN (Service Enabler Network) Concept Provide a variety of services to satisfy various user needs with timely manner. • SEN (Service Enabler Network) is service provision platform on top of IMS Core. • Enabler is the piece of service function that can be commonly used by multiple services. • By combining multiple enablers, realize various services (corporate, consumer , etc.) within reasonable time period and cost.     • Conclusion To live up to user’s demand to enrich the mobile services, mobile systems are continuously evolved.
