    Plot – The order of events in a story
    Foreshadow – When something happens early in the story that indicates what will happen later in the story
    Flashback – When the plot leaves the present to go back to another time (and sometimes another place)
    Figurative Language – Language that is not literal
    Metaphor – A comparison that says that something actually is something else
    Simile – A comparison that says that something is like something else (uses “like” or “as”)
    Personification – When something non-human is given human qualities
    Imagery – The art of creating images through writing
    Tone – The emotion the author wishes to create within the audience
