The PROBLEM…. <ul><li>Going by the statistics the number of people dying due to accidents are much more than due to chronic diseases. </li></ul><ul><li>The cities of today are choked with vehicular traffic. </li></ul><ul><li>Consumers today are becoming more tech-savvy and enjoy personalization of their vehicle. </li></ul><ul><li>Growing demand for value-added services. </li></ul>

The Solution: Telematics <ul><li>Eliminating the problem is not the solution to the problem. </li></ul><ul><li>Traffic management </li></ul><ul><li>Security </li></ul><ul><li>Luxury </li></ul><ul><li>Vehicle’s capability to communicate and interact with the outside world. </li></ul><ul><li>Combines computing, wireless telecommunication and information technology. </li></ul>

Defining Telematics <ul><li>telematics </li></ul><ul><li>the convergence of wireless technology, location electronics, and in-vehicle electronics which is being used to integrate the automobile into information age. </li></ul><ul><li>The best example of telematics is Internet itself, since it depends on a number of computer networks connected globally through telecommunication backbones. </li></ul>

Automatic Crash Notification service the TCU monitors the various crash sensors of the vehicle and in the event of a crash it sends the details of the crash intensity and location information and also initiates a voice call to the telematics call center from where a service operator can initiate the dispatch of emergency services. Request for emergency services can also be manually initiated by the vehicle occupants in case of an emergency or as a good Samaritan for someone else in need of help. First aid methods and techniques are transmitted as audio or video based on the nature of the injury captured by in-house camera. The TCU may have an alternate power supply which may allow it to operate in the event of the vehicle battery or electrical circuit failure due to a crash.

  • 19. Diagnostics Scanning - Monitors health of the car and reports it to the genuine service center of the OEMs. Emission Control – Frequently checks the emission level of exhaust and when it goes above the permitted level, it informs the car user

Future Trends <ul><li>Growth of 3G cellular systems will allow a rapid burst of important data needed for telematics. </li></ul><ul><li>ADAS (Advance Driver Assist Systems) set to grow post 2010. </li></ul><ul><li>Low cost embedded telematics systems will soon appear and be much more competitive than portable navigation systems. </li></ul><ul><li>Almost all kinds of services integrated and provided by one system. </li></ul>
