  • The History of Subway
    • In 1965, Fred Deluca opened up a submarine shop in order to fund his dream of becoming a medical doctor.
    • With the assistance of his friend, Dr. Peter Buck he received a $1,000 loan and an offer to become Fred’s partner. This partnership would change the landscape of the fast food industry.
    • The first store was opened in Bridgeport, Connecticut in August, 1965.
    • By 1974, Fred Deluca and Dr, Peter Buck owned and operated 16 Submarine sandwich shops throughout Connecticut.
    • In 1974, they realized their goal to open 32 stores was not within their reach. In order to achieve their goals, they began franchising and launched the SUBWAY® brand.
    • Today, the SUBWAY® brand is the world’s largest submarine sandwich chain with more than 34,000 locations around the world.
