Where we are now3 Earlier in the 3.0 process, we collected feedback about current data practices - 20 Chapters gave us feedback about how they are collecting data, what they are collecting, and what they are using it for. We learned that there is a growing culture of data collection throughout the network - many chapters are collecting a variety of data through various means. In order to establish a process that will get us to a clear baseline across our network, we need to understand what chapters are willing to collect going forward and what supports we need to put in place for them to do so.
How collected information will4 be used The information will be used to create a baseline picture of our membership and leadership at this point in time Moving forward, National will use the information to inform outreach, programming, partnerships, fundraising and research
How collected information will5 be shared Downloadable Infographics at YNPN.org YNPN By-the-Numbers section of the site Annual state of the network report available to all Full de-identified* version of the data set will be available to any chapter who wants it (not sure about this. Need to discuss how chapters can share beyond that) Sliced data sets available to chapters upon request** *without names/email addresses **depth of “slicing” sub-analysis dependent upon capacity at time of request
What does MEMBER data collection look like for chapters with their own survey system?6 YNPN National will send you a list of questions to add to your member surveyin many cases, you probably already collect some or all of this information" You send out your survey as usual You send us the download of the raw, de-identified data in an excel sheet We add your chapter’s information to the aggregate dataset National does some crunching, slicing, infographing We share network wide, regional, and city specific information via report and infographic with your chapter
What does MEMBER data collection look like for chapters who prefer to link to National’s system?7 YNPN National will send you a link to a central member survey created by National You send the survey out to your members and they submit responses directly into the system YNPN will also be promoting this same survey at the national level (via facebook, twitter) to “capture” members who do not currently affiliate with a chapter or miss chapter outreach. National does some crunching, slicing, infographing We share network wide, regional, and city specific information via report and infographic with your chapter
How are we defining “members”?8 At this point, we are continuing to define members as “any individual your chapter has access to via email, twitter, or facebook, paid or unpaid”
What does CHAPTER LEADER data collection look like for chapters?9 YNPN National will send you a link to a central chapter leader member survey created by National Chapter leaders respond National does some crunching, slicing, infographing We share network wide, regional, and city specific information via report and infographic with your chapter
How are we defining “chapter leaders”?10 Any person who would show up on an org chart for your chapter - elected board members, committee members, regular volunteers
What information are we looking to collect from members?11 (These are the general categories - Please visit and comment on the attached webform for the full, detailed list of information we would like to collect.) Demographics (Age, Race, Gender, etc.) Socialand economic indicators (Level of education, employment status, income, access to health insurance, debt level, etc) Connection to YNPN (How long have you been a member, How did you hear about YNPN, etc.) Behavior (Forms of social media they connect with/spend time on most, Highest level of education they are interested in attaining and fields of study, etc.) Feelingsabout the sector: (Most pressing problems that the sector can address/What they think the sector should be focusing on, highest level of management they are interested in attaining in the sector)
What information are we looking to collect from chapter leaders?12 All the same as members plus… Behavior (Was YNPN your first board service, How/Why did you get involved, etc.)
What support can you expect throughout this process?13 (This will be adjusted according to your feedback.) Technical Access to survey tool List of questions for your own survey Group Trainings We’ll offer webinars and conference calls at key stages of the data collection process to 1) get you set up, 2) aid with collection, and 3) help with analysis and sharing of results. One on one assistance You’ll have access to a data specialist from National to respond to your chapter’s specific questions
