THe French Revolution
By Thomas Kim and Emily Palmer

                                     1
The Who, What, and when of
                      the American revolution

George Washington was a man from Virginia April 19, 1775 was the initial day when the
who was elected to raise up an army for the colonists and the British fired. The whole
Second Continental Congress. This act launched American Revolution was from 1775 -1789.
the beginning of the American Revolution. This time period included the French and
Indian War and the election of the first
                                               president.

The fighting started in Lexington, Massachusetts,
but the American Revolution took place in the
thirteen colonies in the United States.

                                                                                             2
Thomas Jefferson was a major part of the In 1774, political leaders decided to make a

rights. This was ironic, though, because he
owned slaves like many other Americans.
Jefferson was a major part of the writing of
the Declaration of Independence

The Second Continental Congress meet in Philadelphia
to make the Declaration of Independence.

                                                                                              3
Problems?

The colonists were against the British
government because they wouldn’t listen to
the people when they were accused of
                                        “taxation without representation”.

America had a poor, untrained
army which wasn’t nearly as big as
the British army. It also didn’t have
as many materials used in war.

The English king declined the colonists
pleas for fair political rights, and so they
felt the need and the right to revolt.

                                                                                       4
the GOAL.

In the end, the goal of both Thomas
Jefferson and George Washington was to
have won the war and the agreement to an
independent country, not a colony, known as
the United States of America. They wanted
to be apart of a country where everyone was
equal and had the basic human rights:
life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

                  INDEPENDENCE
              The people wanted to break
              away from Britain and
              create a new republic

                       LIBERTY
The people wanted their rights to
            be understood and protected.

               PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS
The people wanted to be carefree
and not worry about the taxes they
were going to have to pay for the
next month. They wanted to live
in America for the same reason
            their ancestors moved years ago.

                                                 5
EVENTS

              The
            leaders of
  the colonists created the
Declaration of Independence
   which was sent to King
       Charles III. It
        included a number
       of abuses the
      parliament did to
    America.
                                                        France
                                                       anticipated
                                                     the fact that
                                      Britain, the most powerful country
in Europe, was fighting against one of their
                                        colonies, America. They wanted
Britain to lose some of its power,
and at the same time gain
                                                power itself. They sent
                                               troops to fight with America
                                              against the British.

                 America’s
                future looked
                pretty bleak
when the war first started out. But since
they had the French soldiers on
their side who were very successful
        in the navy, they pulled
        through and won the war,
           therefore ending the
          American Revolution.

                                                                                    6
The British army was away from
                                              home, and getting materials
                                              consistently from across the ocean
was no small feat. After fighting
for many years, the army was
                                                         becoming tired.

                              France greatly helped the American
army in numbers and in strength. They
made up roughly 45% of the army against
Britain. They also had a very strong navy
which aided in blocking the British
                              getting to specific ports.

What were some of the key factors that led to the end of the American Revolution, and the victory of the Americans?

The Americans were more determined than the
British to gain their freedom and independence
because of the injustices that they had been through.

                                                    THE END.

                                                                                                                7

The French Revolution Explained/TITLE

  • 1. THe French Revolution By Thomas Kim and Emily Palmer 1
  • 2. The Who, What, and when of the American revolution George Washington was a man from Virginia April 19, 1775 was the initial day when the who was elected to raise up an army for the colonists and the British fired. The whole Second Continental Congress. This act launched American Revolution was from 1775 -1789. the beginning of the American Revolution. This time period included the French and Indian War and the election of the first president. The fighting started in Lexington, Massachusetts, but the American Revolution took place in the thirteen colonies in the United States. 2
  • 3. Thomas Jefferson was a major part of the In 1774, political leaders decided to make a Enlightenment in America by encouraging Second Continental Congress. The Declaration free religion and speech, and also human of Independence was released in July 1776. rights. This was ironic, though, because he owned slaves like many other Americans. Jefferson was a major part of the writing of the Declaration of Independence The Second Continental Congress meet in Philadelphia to make the Declaration of Independence. 3
  • 4. Problems? The colonists were against the British government because they wouldn’t listen to the people when they were accused of “taxation without representation”. America had a poor, untrained army which wasn’t nearly as big as the British army. It also didn’t have as many materials used in war. The English king declined the colonists pleas for fair political rights, and so they felt the need and the right to revolt. 4
  • 5. the GOAL. In the end, the goal of both Thomas Jefferson and George Washington was to have won the war and the agreement to an independent country, not a colony, known as the United States of America. They wanted to be apart of a country where everyone was equal and had the basic human rights: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. INDEPENDENCE The people wanted to break away from Britain and create a new republic LIBERTY The people wanted their rights to be understood and protected. PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS The people wanted to be carefree and not worry about the taxes they were going to have to pay for the next month. They wanted to live in America for the same reason their ancestors moved years ago. 5
  • 6. EVENTS The leaders of the colonists created the Declaration of Independence which was sent to King Charles III. It included a number of abuses the parliament did to America. France anticipated the fact that Britain, the most powerful country in Europe, was fighting against one of their colonies, America. They wanted Britain to lose some of its power, and at the same time gain power itself. They sent troops to fight with America against the British. America’s future looked pretty bleak when the war first started out. But since they had the French soldiers on their side who were very successful in the navy, they pulled through and won the war, therefore ending the American Revolution. 6
  • 7. The British army was away from home, and getting materials consistently from across the ocean was no small feat. After fighting for many years, the army was becoming tired. France greatly helped the American army in numbers and in strength. They made up roughly 45% of the army against Britain. They also had a very strong navy which aided in blocking the British getting to specific ports. What were some of the key factors that led to the end of the American Revolution, and the victory of the Americans? The Americans were more determined than the British to gain their freedom and independence because of the injustices that they had been through. THE END. 7
