  • 1190 Paper 4 Oral Communication Revision Points for 3NAPrepared by Yeo Yam Hwee – 3 October 2012Please take note of the following things as you do your self-revision for Paper 4 on 5 October 2012 (Friday).PREPARATION STAGE – 10 minutes approximately 1. Make full use of your preparation time – 10 minutes. Make sure you read aloud to yourself many times and make up your mind where to pause, when to read again and make up your mind how a difficult word should be pronounced during this stage of preparation. Also during preparation time – think clearly through about the PICTURE that you are asked to study for SPOKEN INTERACTION. In the new syllabus, you must not glue your eyes too much on the picture because you will not find any answer. But study the picture carefully, if it is a restaurant, you will know well enough that the theme (main idea) is on FOOD and EATING. If it is on a playground, you will have to think about what the examiner might be asking you on LEISURE or how you make use of your leisure time.EXAMINATION STAGE – 10 minutes approximately 2. Read aloud meaningfully to the examiner when you are asked to do so. Make sure you breathe properly. Understand the meaning of the passage and read in a lively manner. Spoken Interaction – 3 questions by the examiner: [Question 1] With close reference to the picture – you will be asked to provide reasons on why you would rather do this or do that – based on what the picture is all about. REMEMBER to calmly and clearly give your reasons. DO NOT STOP AT ONE REASON. [Question 2] This is going to be a general question - Why do you think this …? Why do you think that….? For example: Why do you think that Singaporeans like to eat out? Why is shopping a favourite local pastime? USE YOUR COMMON SENSE to provide your comments. You should give COMMENTS, Your POINT OF VIEW, EXAMPLES, ELABORATIONS and so on. Say as much as possible. [Question 3] This is another general question – Usually you will be asked to give your opinion on the topic which you are already discussing. For example: In the long run, do you think it is good for Singaporeans to be eating out all the time? Again say as much as you can. 3.
