ANCIENT MAYAN BY : Ethan Chau, Lee Jin Hao And Gregory
The ingenious religious beliefs and practices of the Ancient Maya vary greatly over space and time, but certain common features can be discerned, all of which are consistent with other Mesoamerican. First among these is a focus on various interlocking cyclical periods of Time, such as the 260-day Tzolkin calendar. Also notable are the cardinal directions, conceived not as finite intervals but as and individual associations with "nahuals" or external souls in animal form.
The Maya People constitute a diverse range of the Native Americans peoples of southern Mexico and northern Central America. The overarching term "Maya" is a convenient collective designation to include the peoples of the region who share some degree of cultural and linguistic heritage, however, the term embraces many distinct populations, societies, and ethnic groups, who each have their own particular traditions, cultures, and historical identity.
