Egypt <ul><li>Egypt was a civilization located in eastern North Africa near the middle to lower reaches of the Nile River. </li></ul><ul><li>It started around 3150BC with the joining of Upper and Lower Egypt. </li></ul><ul><li>The rule of pharaohs ended when the Roman Empire dominated them to become a province. </li></ul>

Mummies <ul><li>A mummy is a corpse whose skin and dried flesh have been preserved by salt or resins or chemicals, extreme cold, very low humidity, or lack of air when bodies are submerged. </li></ul><ul><li>When someone is mummified, the internal organs of the person are put into special jars that are made to hold them . </li></ul>

The Rosetta Stone <ul><li>The Rosetta Stone is an Ancient Egyptian artifact which was instrumental in advancing modern understanding of hieroglyphic writing. </li></ul><ul><li>The stone is a carved writing </li></ul><ul><li>The text is made up of three translations of a single passage, written in two Egyptian language scripts, and in classical Greek. It was created in 196 BC, discovered by the French in 1799 and they contributed greatly to the decipherment of the principles of Egyptian writing in 1822 by the British man named, Thomas Young and a French scholar named, Jean-François Champollion. The translation of the stone assisted in understanding many previously illegible examples of Egyptian writing. </li></ul>
